Ludhiana, Feb 18, 2017: Former bureaucrat-turned-politician Darbara Singh Guru is reinventing himself as a Gursikh these days.
To become the one in sync with the Sikh Maryada (code of conduct), he has stopped trimming his beard after joining as the member, secretary of the Trust that runs Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University at Fatehgarh Sahib.
Though the condition is not part of the Constitution of the university but tradition has it that those working on managerial/official position in the university in observe the religious code of conduct that includes the phyiscal religious symbols.
When asked by babushahi.com, Guru confirmed having stopped trimming his beard in line with the requirement of maintaining unshorn hair (Kesh). This is one of the five physical symbols every Amritdhari (baptised) Sikh is required to sport..Earlier, the office of secretary was held by former general secretary of SGPC Sukhdev Singh Bhaur.
In fact, this was conveyed to him by the SGPC chief Prof Kirpal Singh Badungar at the time of his appointment about two weeks ago. A former senior IAS officer, Guru is the member of Shiromani Akali Dal. He was the party's candidate from Bassi Pathana constituency in the recently concluded Punjab Assembly elections.
