Fatehgarh Sahib, March.24, 2019 - Fatehgarh Sahib (R) Parliamentary constituency is likely to witness a keen contest between the highly qualified candidates among all the 13 constituencies, if sources are to be believed. The highly placed sources in both the traditional parties Congress, SAD(B) and AAP are likely to field most qualified candidates may be Retired bureaucrats or Judges. As per the information Congress party has forwarded a panel of three candidates Dr. Amar Singh IAS former Chief Secretary of MP cader, Manmohan Singh (Retd) Chief Engineer, considered close to CM and Gurpreet Singh GP MLA Bassi Pathana, SAD(B) is likely to field Darbara Singh Guru IAS former Principal Secy To CM cum Halka incharge of SAD(B, Justice Nirmal Singh former MLA and Vikram Khalsa are also in race. AAP party is most probably to field Justice Zora Singh head of Jora Singh Commission. Punjab Democratic Alliance (PDA) has already announced Engineer Manvinder Singh Giaspura as its candidate.
Fatehgarh Sahib (Reserve) Constituency is spread over 9 Assembly constituencies Fatehgarh Sahib, Bassi Pathana, Amloh of Fatehgarh Sahib district, Khanna, Sahnewal, Samrala, Payal and Raikot of Ludhiana district and Amargarh of Sangrur district.There are 14,74,947 voters out of this 785807 male, 689104 female, 36 3rd gender, 4939 service voters, and 5334 physically handicapped voters. Amnog the reserve category voters Ramdasia Community has 80% voters, whereas Balmikis are 20%, so all the parties will prefer Ramdasioa candidates as there is strong lobby of Ramdasia community, which demand ticket for their community from both the traditional parties. Darbara Singh Guru IAS (Retd) of SAD(B) and Dr. Amar Singh IAS ( Retd) both belong to Ramdasia community.
Fatehgarh Sahib Constituency was earlier part of Ropar constituency, since its carvation it has not been granted for any political party to register win. In 2009 Sukhdev Singh Libra, who deserted from SAD(B) to Congreess won on the Congress ticket by defeating Charanjit Singh Atwal, in 2014 people voted for AAP candidate Harinder Singh Khalsa by defeating Sadhu Singh Dharmsot of Congress and renowned realtor Kulwant Singh of Janta Land promoter Mohali.
Fatehgarh Sahib is likely to witness keen contest no party can afford to take the contest lightly.
