Questions raised after a new claim of WHO on asymptomatic Corona patients
Geneva, June 9, 2020: Questions have been raised on the spread of Corona Virus due to asymptomatic patients of the disease after World Health Organization (WHO) claimed on Monday that disease is difficult to spread through asymptomatic infections.
Until now it was assumed that all patients who are positive but do not have symptoms of Corona are also carrier of the disease and spread it in their contacts. Now with the new claim of the WHO, several questions have been raised to why until now it was presumed that such asymptomatic patients are spreader of the disease and why such patients are being harassed by different governments worldwide.
WHO Spokesperson Dr. Maria Ven Kerkhove while interacting with media at UNO headquarter in Geneva said that From the data we have, it still seems to be rare that an asymptomatic person actually transmits onward to a secondary individual, it’s very rare though she admitted that some studies have indicated that asymptomatic or presymptomatic spread in nursing homes and household settings.
The new claim is likely to confuse different nations on how to move ahead with tackling the disease. They are left with only two options either to continue with the present system by assuming that asymptomatic spread the disease or they have to stop believing so and change their strategies on dealing with the issue.
WHO has emphasized that Governments should focus on detecting and isolating only infected people with symptoms, and track those who might have come into contact with them. Van Kerkhove insisted that more research and data are needed to truly answer the question of whether the coronavirus can spread widely through asymptomatic carriers.
