Navjot Sidhu speaks on farmers' agitation
Chandigarh, December 13, 2020: Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu hit out at the central government for its failure to bring any resolution to farmers’ concerns even after nationwide protest against farm bills.
On Sunday, the Congress leader posted a video clip on his official Twitter handle where he criticized the government for having failed to give the fair prices of the produce of the ‘Annadata’ (farmers) over the years while increasing the salaries of those working in public sectors under various policies.
Coming heavily on the Prime minister Narendra Modi led government for their lackadaisical approach towards farmers, former Cricketer further wrote on Twitter that though the government had earlier promised to double farmer’s income, they gave a ‘lollipop’ of Rs 500 or Rs 600 MSP.
He stressed the need for increasing farmers’ income.
“Each farmer needs at least Rs 15,000 to Rs 18,000 per month. That’s the only way we can strengthen ourfarmers. Its said how he have pushed our farmers to such an extent that now many of them are committing suicide,” he added.
Take a look at Sidhu's Twitter post:
Expressing support to the ongoing farmers’ protest, the minister had on Saturday termed Farmers protest has ‘People’s Movement’ against the economic model that deprives the poor of their income.
In September, Sidhu has also joined the farmers’ agitation against farm bills in Amritsar.
