Jalandhar: DC rewards another citizen with Rs 25K for exposing black-marketing of COVID-19 drugs
Says move aims at protecting people from overcharging & malpractices amid pandemic
Jalandhar, May 21, 2021: Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori on Friday honored another citizen for exposing black-marketing of Covid-19 drugs, which are used to save the critical patients.
Handing over a cheque of Rs. 25000 to Reema Guglani a resident of Model House who is also a freelance journalist, the deputy Commissioner lauded the courageous efforts of Ms. Gulati to expose the black-marketing of these lifesaving drugs. He stated that such instances would promote transparency in the sale of such life-saving drugs while encouraging others to raise voice against such malpractices.
He categorically mentioned that the malpractice and overcharging would be highly unwarranted and attract severe actions if any such case reported in the district.
Notably, Reema Guglani had posted the requirement of Remdesevir injection for Covid-19 patients on social media, following which a dealer contacted her claiming availability of this drug and asked for exorbitant prices.
Gulati then informed Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori about the incident while sharing the chat record and voice messages received from the dealer. An inquiry was marked by the DC and finally recommendation to register an FIR against the accused was made to Police authorities.
The DC urged people to come forward against any kind of malpractice and overcharging with regard to RT-PCR tests, Covid-19 related drugs and treatment so that directions of the state government could be implemented in letter and spirit.
The Deputy Commissioner further reiterated his commitment to providing best of the medical facilities to people amid this health crisis that too at the reasonable cost as fixed by the state government.
