Assistant public prosecutor commits suicide a few days after recovering from COVID
Mohali, May 23, 2021:
34-year-old Harsimran Singh Sandhu allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from grill of his room’s gate on Sunday morning.
The deceased, Sandhu was a resident of Sector 70 in Mohali and was working in Kharar courts as Assistant Public Prosecutor (APP). Harsimran had recently recovered from COVID-19 but he was mentally upset since he tested COVID positive, said his family members to the police.
Station House Officer of Mataur police station, Inspector Manphul Singh said that Harsimran hung with grill of his room’s gate with the help of a bedsheet. He was staying with his wife and family. He was recently married but had no children.
“No suicide note was recovered from the deceased. His family informed us that he was under stress after testing COVID positive. We have initiated the inquest proceedings under Section 174 of the CrPC. The postmortem of the deceased has been conducted,” said Inspector Manphul Singh.
As per the information, Harsimran became quite weak after infecting from COVID-19 and was worried that he would not get rid of his weakness. Due to which, he might have taken this extreme step.
On seeing Harsimran hanging, his family rushed him to a hospital, but was declared dead by the doctors. The police were informed after that. His final rites were performed on Sunday.
Kharar Bar Association has also condoled the death of Harsimran Sandhu.
