Chandigarh University secures top ranks in QS World University Rankings by Subjects 2024
Stands out in eight Courses among Indian Universities compared to five last year

Chandigarh, May 13, 2024: Driven by its commitment to fostering a highly skilled and talented workforce for the industry, Chandigarh University continues to climb new heights of recognition and influence in both the domestic and global higher education landscape, evident through its consistent rise in annual rankings, including the recent QS World University Rankings by Subject 2024, said Advisor to Chancellor Chandigarh University Dr. R S Bawa while speaking at the press conference at Ludhiana in Punjab.
While addressing the press conference, Advisor to Chancellor Chandigarh University, Prof. (Dr.) R S Bawa said, “Within just 12 years of its establishment, Chandigarh University has firmly established itself as a prominent higher education institution, both in India and globally. Chandigarh University saw significant improvement in the QS Asia Universities Rankings 2024, jumping to 149th from 185th in the previous year. Moreover, it secured the 27th rank among India’s top universities in the NIRF Rankings 2023. Notably, it has ascended to the ranks of top national institutions, with eight of its courses now featured in the recently released QS World University Rankings by Subject 2024, compared to just five subjects last year.”
He said, “Among Indian institutions, CU ranked 1st in Hotel and Leisure Management, 10th in Computer Science & Information Systems, 11th in Engineering & Technology, 14th in Mechanical Engineering, and 18th in Business & Management Studies. Furthermore, the university achieved notable rankings in three new subjects this year, securing 3rd place in Petroleum Engineering, 5th in Electrical & Electronics Engineering, and 9th in Social Sciences and Management.”
During his conference address, Dr. R S Bawa highlighted Chandigarh University’s dedication not only to enhancing academic pursuits but also to providing global exposure for its students.
He said, “To cultivate industry-ready graduates, Chandigarh University has established 486 academic partnerships and affiliations across more than 95 countries worldwide. As a result, more than 1300 CU students have got the opportunity to study at esteemed universities in the USA, Australia, Canada, UK, and various European nations through semester exchanges, abroad programs, and summer internships. Furthermore, approximately 310 students have been provided internship opportunities at Walt Disney.”
Dr. Bawa further said, “Chandigarh University emphasizes research and innovation on the campus as much as academic excellence, for which it provides both a conducive environment and state-of-the-art facilities on the campus. CU hosts India’s first real-time ground station at Kalpana Chawla Centre for Research in Space Science and Technology.
Additionally, it has 30 Industry-sponsored Advanced Research Labs and 32 Centers of Excellence established by leading MNCs, providing real-time industry experience to students. Additionally, it has a vast International Research Network with more than 250 universities in over 60 countries. To further encourage research on the campus, the university has reserved a budget of Rs. 15 Crore this year.”
Further underlining the achievements of the university in research and innovation, Dr. Bawa informed, “In the last ten years, the students and faculty of Chandigarh University have filed 2613 patents in the field of Engineering, Sciences, IT, and Healthcare, out of which, more than 130 filed patents are of students from Punjab. In 2021-22, Chandigarh University set a new record by filing 703 patents, establishing itself as the highest patent filing institution in the country within a single year.”
While speaking about campus placement drive 2023-24 at CU, Dr. Bawa said, “It gives me immense pleasure to share that Chandigarh University has once again emerged as a popular choice for as many as 904 recruiters, including leading multinational companies and corporate houses, both in India and overseas.”
He said, “The 2023-24 batch at Chandigarh University received a total of 9124 job offers across various streams, enabling many students to land into their dream jobs. This year, one student secured a salary package of Rs 1.74 crore, marking the highest annual package for the batch. Meanwhile, the highest domestic salary package was Rs 54.75 lakh. Over 31 recruiters extended job offers amounting to Rs 20 lakh or above, while 52 companies provided opportunities with annual salary packages exceeding Rs 15 lakh. Additionally, over 100 companies offered positions with an annual salary of Rs 10 lakh, and 310 companies presented roles with an annual salary of Rs 5 lakh.”
While announcing the placement details of students from Ludhiana, Dr. Bawa said, “In this year's campus placement drive, a total of 612 students from Punjab successfully secured positions in leading companies, including 318 hailing from Malwa region. Notably, 138 female students from Punjab secured placements this year. Furthermore, 348 students from Punjab received multiple job offers, with 62 among them being from the Malwa region. As many as 508 students from Punjab have accepted the offers received during the campus recruitment drive for 2023-24 batch.”
Dr. R S Bawa further shared how Anmol, hailing from Ludhiana, and pursuing a BE in Computer Science Engineering at CU, became a highly sought candidate for five recruiters, namely Cognizant Technology Solutions India Pvt Ltd, Vehant Technologies Pvt Ltd, UnitedLex BPO Pvt. Ltd, Anheuser-Busch INBev (AB Inbev), and Clarivate, who offered him lucrative salary packages.
Another BE/B.Tech- CSE student, Rishit Kapoor bagged three job offers from companies like Capgemini, DXC Technology, and Cognizant Technology Solutions. Jessica Reehal also received three job offers from leading MNCs, namely Microsoft R&D India Pvt Ltd, Color Tokens Inc, and Kritikal Solutions Inc.
During the conference, Dr. R S Bawa also threw light on Chandigarh University’s emphasis on sports. He said, “In addition to excelling in academics and research, Chandigarh University actively promotes sports and offers extensive support and opportunities for students aiming to pursue careers in this field. Over the years, Chandigarh University has nurtured some of the best talents in the world of sports, who have brought glory to both the university and the country. So far, CU students have won more than 342 medals in various state, national, and international sports events. Students from Punjab have significantly contributed to the University’s achievements and victories in various sports events at all levels.”
During his media interaction, Dr. Bawa expressed Chandigarh University's commitment to delivering high-quality education and fostering comprehensive development among all students.
Therefore, the University every year provides CUCET scholarships to deserving candidates based on their merit with a view to encourage them to continue their studies and perform remarkably well in academics.
This year, Chandigarh University is offering a significant opportunity for students to earn their own fee up to 100% by availing scholarships totaling Rs 170 Crores through CUCET-2024. Chandigarh University has a track record of successfully awarding scholarships to over 130,000 students since its establishment.
At present, 9272 students from across Punjab are enrolled in various courses at Chandigarh University, out of which 2229 recipients of scholarships. As many as 38 students from Punjab have been given 100% scholarship, which includes 16 girls.”
