Sangrur, December 9: Displaying their good form, Pakistan defeated England by 57-21 in their men’s Pool B match in the 4th Pearls World Cup Kabaddi (Circle Style) 2013 being hosted by the Punjab Government at the War Heroes Stadium here today. It was Baaber Gujjar-led Pakistan’s fourth successive triumph and are maintaining their unbeaten record. With this they are leading the Pool B with eight points and their last match in the round Robin league will be against Sierra Leone who have won two matches and suffered two defeats. Pakistan, sure to qualify for semi-final, have earlier beaten Canada by 69-21, Scotland by 63-26 and Denmark with 77-22. In the second match of Pool B, Canada kept their hopes alive for a semi-final berth after beating Sierria Leone by 58-34. It was their third win. Canada and England are now tied with six points each. Canada and England have to meet each other in their crucial match which will decide the second qualifiers for semi-final from this pool. Other teams in this pool Denmark and Scotland are out of reckoning as they have four matches each. From Pool A hosts and defending champions India have already round off their league programme with an all win record with eight points. For the second semi-final berth, the race is between United States of America and Spain, both have two wins in their favour and one defeat each. Spain have finished their league programme whlile USA will meet Argentina in their last league tie. USA have secured 150 points and conceded 95 in three matches while Spain got 140 points in favour and 161 against. On the basis of points difference, USA enjoy a huge advantage. The Pool A women’s league programme have been completed after New Zealand defeated United States of America for their second win from three matches. Pool A leaders India with an all-win record and New Zealand qualified for semi-final from this pool. Denmark topped Pool B after defeating England by 33-30 in a closely contested match. It was Denmark’s third successive win from three matches and qualified for semi-final with six points. England have finished their league programe with one win and one defeat. Pakistan women have to win Mexico in their last match to claim the second semi-final slot from this pool. Pakistan also have one win to their credit and have lost to Denmark in their first match.
