Congress Protest
Jalandhar, January 12: Punjab Congress today described the two days NRI Sammelan held by SAD-BJP government a farce and an insult to injury of Non Resident Punjabis (NRPs). In a joint statement issued here PPCC leaders Ch. Jagjit Singh, Ch. Santokh Singh, S. Amarjit Singh Samra (Ex Ministers), S. Rajanbir Singh General Secretary PPCC, S. Jagbir singh Brar DCC President Jalandhar Rural and Rajinder Beri DCC President Jalandhar Urban said, \"NRIs who attended the two days Sammelan had returned disillusioned as their complaints of land grab, property disputes and false cases registered against them by police were not heard. The NRI meet was just an occasion to portrait lies of this government in a fashioned manner.\" The Congress leaders said that Sukhbir Badal had made tall claims of NRI investment in Punjab when he first held the NRI Sammelan in 2002. The seven years have passed but not even a single penny was invested by any NRI. He said that even during current NRI Sammelan, the NRIs had expressed concern over deteriorating law and order and harassment by police. The NRIs were not allowed to raise their grievances. However they have narrated their woes in the media. Most of invitees felt humiliated in the hands of security staff. The PPCC leaders said that many NRIs have complained that Akali leaders were grabbing their properties and fleecing them by all possible means. They referred to a case of NRI Gurjit Singh based in Germany whose bus permit was got transferred by an Akali leader in his name with forged signatures. Gurbachan Singh of Moga who lives in Punjab has lost his Rs.24 lakh to a property dealer connected with SAD. He was neither given money nor plot for which he had made payment. Their pleas for justice were not heard by Sukhbir Badal or any of his officers in the NRI department. NRI department counter at the Sammelan had received 55 such complaints. The Congress leaders said that NRIs wanted to invest in Punjab out of love for their mother land but SAD-BJP government is not serious on any issue. The NRIs who were invited in the previous Sammelans were not invited this time since they had returned frustrated from false promises. The Non-Resident Indians have now become Not Required Indians. A London based journalist Nirpal Singh Shergill who was first to get NRI media card at the previous NRI Sammelan was not invited. NRI privilege cards given to NRIs were not honored though they were promised several facilities on the basis of these cards. The cards expired on December 31, 2013 and no cards are being issued to NRIs. Even no help is extended to Punjabi girls deserted by certain disgruntled NRIs, the PPCC leaders added. The Congress leaders said that Sukhbir Badal was trying to project himself as saviors of Punjab by organizing such functions. Recently held Progressive Punjab Investment Summit in Mohali was also similar exercise. The big industrial houses who participated in the Sunmit have not returned to Punjab. Being election year, Sukhbir Badal is giving lollypops to people of Punjab, the Congress leaders said.
