Ferozepur, 30 March: All speculations were given a full-stop with the joining of hands between Sunil Jakhar and Rana Sodhi at a ‘Thanksgiving Meeting’ held at the Farm House of Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi, Congress MLA at Mohan Ke Uttar. In the city corners, the hot question for the coming few days is “Was ‘Thanksgiving Meeting’ by Rana Sodhi was pre-planned?†Whatever may be the background, but it is definitely in the interest of the party and Rana Sodhi as well who has been assured to get a distinction in the district. Indirectly, it is an indication to replace him with Partap Singh Bajwa, Congress State President, PPCC. In fact, it was a need of the hour to secure the support of Rana Sodhi as he keeps a vote bank of Rai Sikh as he played a major role in getting the community with 2.30 lakh votes the SC/ST status from the then Congress government in Punjab rather by persuading the Congress-led UPA government. As per the sources, the case of Rana Sodhi was presented properly for giving him Lok Sabha seat from Ferozepur and his feelings have been betrayed. On the other hand, it was also being seen as a pressure tactics within the party. Anyhow, the Congress party or Sunil Jakhar have managed over a closed door meetings to join hands with Rana Sodhi. Rana Sodhi has taken a wise step by not opposing the Congress candidate to maintain his status in the party and also in the eyes of his supporters. This has definitely given a jolt to major rival group –Akali-BJP candidate for Lok Sabha elections Sher Singh Ghubaya. The other candidates put by the political parties - Ram Kumar Prajapati of BSP, Satpal Kamboj of AAP and Dhian Singh Mand of SAD(A) are weak candidates. All these will be playing their cards on caste basis and affecting the vote share percentage of Akali-BJP and Congress and ultimately the fight will be between Akali Dal/BJP and Congress.
