Chandigarh, August 21: In the Talwandi Sabo assembly constituency, which went to polling for bye-elections to Punjab Assembly, large scale booth capturing has taken place. Unscrupulous people belonging to Akali Dal forcibly entered various Polling Stations, took control and indulged in massive vote rigging. Further, the aforementioned goons also threatened and intimated the electors to vote in favor of their party’s candidate and restricted the entry of workers/supporters belonging to the other parties, thereby, affecting the orderly conduct of elections. Ministers and leader of Akali Dal were seen roaming around freely and openly intimidating the electors coming to cast their vote. During the polling the complaints of rigging and booth capturing were sent to the Election Commission regarding the Talwandi Town , Kelabander, Chathawala villages. The information regarding the aforementioned illegal acts of the ruling party workers was given to the concerned authorities from time to time; however, no timely action was taken to stop the said illegal acts. In view of the above, the AAP has demanded that the polling at Booth No. 81 of Village Kelabander, Booth No’s 107, 115, &118 of Talwandi Town, , Booth No 129 of Village Teona should be declared as void and re-polling at the said Polling Booths should take place in order to ensure free and fair elections, thereby, preserving the spirit of democracy.
