Chandigarh (BB) November 11: Chief Electoral Officer, Haryana Mrs. Sumita Misra today directed the District Electoral Officers of Hisar and Fatehabad to ensure strict enforcement of model code of conduct in Ratia (SC) and Adampur Assembly Constituencies for which bye election is to be held on November 30, 2011. Mrs Misra was giving them directions through a video conference from Chandigarh. She also directed to appoint Sectoral Officer to closely monitor the expenditure being made by contesting candidates and political parties. She said that they should also check unnecessary expenditures. Proper security arrangements for ensuring free and peaceful conduct of the bye election should also be ensured be them, she added. Mrs Sumita Misra directed them to maintain a strict vigil on anti-social elements, arrest the proclaimed offenders, bail jumpers and seize unauthorized arms. Also, authorized arms should also be got deposited in police stations. She said that although the list of sensitive and highly sensitive polling stations has already been issued by Election Commission yet they should keep in touch with political parties. If the political parties inform about sensitivity of another polling station, in that case time bound action should be taken by them, she added. She said that apart from ensuring updated list of disqualified candidates, they should also ensure availability of election related books and directions of Election Commission of India. Proper videography of polling booths should also be ensured, she added. Mrs. Misra also held video conference with all District Electoral Officers and directed them to strictly follow the directions of Election Commission. She also monitored the progress of work concerning National Voters Day which would be observed on January 25, 2012 throughout the state. She directed them to list mobile numbers of all new voters to be sent to the department. The department would start SMS campaign as per which all new voters would be informed that they could get their voter card on National Voters Day. National Voters Day would be observed with the theme ‘enhancing woman participation in electoral process’, she added. Additional Chief Electoral Officer, Mr. S.K. Setia was also present on this occasion.
