Kabaddi jumps out of Asian arena as Canada to clash with India in World cup Kabaddi final
Canada\'s surprise win upsets Pakistan in neck to neck semi-final as it won 44-39 • India trounces Italy while Canada crushed Pakistan • Indian eves defeat America in last league match of women Kabaddi BATHINDA, NOVEMBER 18: The Kabaddi today crossed the frontiers of Asian subcontinent as Canada today upset Pakistan in a keenly fought semi-final of Pool B and defeated it 44-39 to enter in final to clash with the host India. Earlier India in a virtually one sided match trounced Italy74-15. In a fiercely fought match Canada and Pakistan were neck to neck throughout the match, fighting for each and every point, threatening to walk out forever single point seeking replays and ultimately making the Kabaddi game win. It was battle of bits between Pakistan and Canada but the aggression of Canada demoralized the Pakistani team. The ferocity of the match and see-saw battle could be gauged from the score, which was 10-10, 12-12 and 20-20 at the interval, 23-23 each then Canada started dominating the match. The hope of Pakistan raider Lala and stopper Musharaff disappointed their fans as Canada dominating the proceedings. It was intensely fought match keeping the organizers, technical team on toes and tense throughout the match. The Canadian raiders Kuldeep Keepa scored 14 points and Captain Jasjeet Singh scored12 points while the main stopper Baljit Saidoke made 8 stops. From Pakistan sideraider and Captain Sadiq Batt scored 11 and Imtiaz Aalam scored 7 points while stoppers Kasif Khan and Munsha Gujjar made 3 stops each. Earlier India made thumping entry into the finals by trouncing Italy 74-15 in the semi-finals of pool A held in newly constructed floodlit multipurpose stadium of Bathinda. In the first semi-final of Pool A the Indian Kabaddi team was in its full form from the very word go and maintainedits dominance throughout the match. Indian raiders including Sandeep Dirba scored 11, Gagandeep Khiranwali 10, Captain Sukhbir Singh Sarawan 8 whereas Indian stoppers Ekam Hathoor scored 9, Mangat Singh Mangi 6 and Gurwinder Kahlwan 6 points helped India to prove its supremacy over Italy. In the Italy team raider Dharminder Singh Hindi scored 7 points and Baljinder Khiranwali scored 6 points. The single stop of Major Dhandowal to Sukhbir Sarawan was the only saving grace for Italy. Earlier in the last league match of Women section, the Indian eves overcoming the trauma of yesterday\'s unfortunate accident crushed USA 57-07. Interestingly, finals of Women Kabaddi would also be between India and US women Kabaddi teams on November 20th. It is pertinent to mention here, in the first session of World Cup Kabaddi India and Pakistan had won their semi- finals in Bathinda Indian raiders Priyanka Devi and Rajwinder Raju scored 10 points each whereas stopper Jatinder, Jasbir and Manpreet scored 9,7 and 6 points respectively. USA raider Guramrit Hari Khalsa,Triana and Retuta scored 2 points each whereas stopper Gursurya Khalsa score done point. Addressing the audience Chief Minister Punjab, Mr. Parkash Singh Badal expressed happiness for the fact that Kabaddi has reached its pinnacle of glory and assured total support of Punjab Government to give impetus to the games in the state. Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Sukhbir Singh Badal, Canadian Minister for Democratic Affairs Mr. Tim Uppal and Youth Akali Dal President Mr. Bikram Singh Majithia enjoyed the nail biting matches.
