Ramanjit Singh Sikki
Khadoor Sahab (Tarn Taran), February 1, 2016: Former MLA Ramanjit Singh Sikki from Khadoor Sahib assembly constituency today addressed his supporters and party activists. Accompanied by senior party leader and Kapurthala MLA Rana Gurjeet Singh Sikki held a meeting with the workers at his office in Rashiana village. Talking to media persons here today, he reiterated that he had resigned from the Punjab Vidhan Sabha on an issue that touched and concerned all the Punjabis. “Since the issue on which I resigned still stands, there was no point in my contesting the election and going to the same Vidhan Sabha with same people and the same Speaker who have no respect for the Sikh sentimentsâ€, he said, while justifying the boycott of the bye-election. Giving details, he said, between the day of his resignation and the day when the Speaker called him, no action had been taken against the guilty of sacrilege in Bargadi and Bath village in Khadoor Sahab assembly segment. He said, the extreme of the insensitivity of the Akalis was reflected when the Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal held Sangat Darshan for three months including in the village Bath where also sacrilege took place, with an eye on the bye-election. “He did not utter even a single word leave aside doing anything about punishing those guilty of sacrilegeâ€, he said about the Chief Minister. “For me the cause for which I resigned is more important than contesting or winning the electionsâ€, Sikki said, adding, “elections will keep on coming and going, but the principles cannot be compromisedâ€. About the bye-election, he left it to the conscience of the people of Khadoor Sahab urging them to introspect and think as why the bye-election was necessitated and whether the issue was resolved or not. He appealed to the party workers to abide by the decision of the PCC president Capt Amarinder Singh. Thanking all the people including those in his constituency who, he said, had taken him to this position, Sikki also thanked the Congress President Ms Sonia Gandhi, the Vice President Rahul Gandhi, both of whom supported his decision on the recommendation of the PCC president Capt Amarinder Singh. He said, Capt Amarinder, by boycotting the election had once again proved as he actually cared for the interests of Sikhs and Punjabis in strong contrast to the self proclaimed guardians of the Sikh community, like the Akalis.
