Hukamnama Violation: Akali ministers visit Sirsa dera for votes, SGPC member Panjoli seeks action
Fatehgarh Sahib, January 28, 2017: Just a week before Punjab Assembly polls, the request made by SGPC member and SAD leader Karnail Singh Panjoli to Jathedar, Akal Takht for action against the Akali ministers Parminder Singh Dhindsa and Surjit Singh Rakhra for visiting Dera Sacha Sauda to seek votes is likely to snowball into a major embarrassment for the party.
In a statement, Panjoli has appealed to the Jathedar to initiate immediate probe into the alleged visit of the Dera by both leaders. He has also requested to excommunicate both from the Sikh Panth if found guilty so as to dissuade others from committing this sin. He has referred to the news and photo of both party leaders’ visit posted on social networking site Facebook.
He argued that action against both leaders was justified because their visit violated the Hukamnama (religious edict) issued by Akal Takht to boycott of the Dera chief by the Sikhs for his blasphemous act of imitating the Tenth Guru. The edict was issued in the wake of widespread anguish and resentment prevailing in the community against the Dera chief for this. Violent clashes took place between the Sikha and Dera followers, he said.
