About 5 to 8 deaths have been reported and over 100 vehicles were torched in a spate of violence caused by irate followers of Gurmit Ram Rahim, the rape convict spiritual head of Dera Sacha Sauda based in Sirsa town of Haryana.
There is no official confirmation of the exact number of deaths as yet but ground reports suggested the deaths occurred due to firing and ensuing stampede.
The bodies have not been identified as yet.
Besides vehicles, the followers indulging in arson also torched buildings, shops and two Outdoor broadcasting vans of TV Channels Aaj Tak and Times Now stationed there to cover the violence.
The violence that broke out in the wake of the adverse court verdict enveloped Panchkula for hours as the police miserably failed to control the explosive situation which by all accounts was predictable.
The spectacle of violence served as another repeat of the failure of the Haryana police and the state government witnessed during the violent Jat Reservation stir in past.
