Amritsar on Tuesday got its first-ever Sikh mayor Karamjit Singh Rintu.
Rintu, a first-time city councilor has been elected mayor by the newly elected councilors.
Punjab Rural Development and Panchayat minister Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa announced the name of the Mayor at the MC office in Amritsar.
Raman Bakshi and Younas Kumar were elected as senior deputy mayor and deputy mayor respectively.
As many as 17 councillors reportedly belong to Sidhu remained absent during the first oath taking ceremony of the councillors here.Some of them interacted with media and alleged that their leader Sidhu has been ignored by the ruling party.
