Preacher leading the congregation of Nirnkari sect killed among three in grenade attack

Amritsar, Nov 18 - ACS Home and DGP Punjab visit the bomb blast site and those injured at hospital N. S. Kalsi, IAS, ACS Home, Punjab and Suresh Arora, IPS, DGP Punjab visited the site of the bomb blast at Nirankari Satsang Bhawan, Adliwal road.
Meanwhile NIA team has arrived in Amritsar and started investigations at the blast site.
In a grenade attack, wherein at least three people were killed and Twenty injured at Nirankari Bhawan falling at village Adliwala village outskirt of Amritsar here today, in which one of the dead was identified a main preacher of the today’s congregation.
According to Police grenade was hurled at stage where Parcharak (preacher) Sukhdev Kumar who was the main person running and holding the today’s congregation was killed.
People attending the congregation seeking anonymity said that preacher Sukhdev Kumar may be the target of assailants, since grenade was thrown near the dais where the preacher was addressing the religious gathering and to create interruption preacher was made target.
Denying that preacher could be target of assailants, IG SS Parmar said that this was not possible that preacher was the target. He said that shortly police will come out with more facts as various investigating teams were working in a tandem manner.
It is learnt that police has deployed security around the house of preacher Sukhdev Kumar resident of village Meerakot just two kilometres away from the blast site.
Among three dead two were identified as Sandeep Singh resident of village Rajasansi and Kuldeep Singh.
However among 20 injured there were nine females Kashmir Kaur, Mehakjit Kaur, Sukhwinder Kaur, Surjeet Kaur, Jasbir Kaur, Nirmal Kaur, Rajwant Kaur and Simranjit Kaur, Kulwinder Kaur and one child Dilsher Singh (6).
Meanwhile police has registered FIR on the statement of Nirnakari sect volunteer Gagan who was doing Sewa as gateman on the main door of the premises where the grenade was lobbed.
The grenade was lobbed by two turbaned motorcycle-borne persons. They also had their faces covered. Director General of Police Suresh Arora, who had rushed to the spot along with senior police officers, told reporters that the police were treating it as a terrorist act.
