Jalandhar, May 3, 2019: The Observers for Jalandhar Lok Sabha seat today said that the as per the directions of the Election Commission of India (ECI) strict vigil would be kept on the use of money and muscle power during the run-up for the polls.
Presiding over a meeting with candidates/ their agents here at the conference hall of the District Administrative Complex, the General Election Observer
I Samuel Anand Kumar, Police Observer Rajiv Jain, Expenditure Observers Preeti Chaudhary and Amit Shukla, accompanied by the Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Varinder Kumar Sharma said that the Election Commission of India has fixed a maximum limit of Rs 70 lakh during the Lok Sabha polls. They said that the candidates must adhere to this limit and avoid excessive use of money power during the polls. They apprised the candidates/ their agents that strict vigil would be kept on the entire expenditure being made by them during the polls.
The Observers said that this expenditure was being monitored from the date of filing of nominations to the day of counting including winning procession by the successful candidate. They said that every single penny spent by the candidate would be accounted for the administration through the expenditure teams being set up for this purpose. They said that that Shadow Observation Registers were being duly maintained which would be cross-checked with the registers maintained by the candidates at regular intervals.
The Observers also apprised the candidates/ their agents about the main provisions of the Model Code of Conduct. They said that the parties must adhere to the stipulated Model Code of Conduct else stern the action would be taken against the violators as per the provisions. They said that for ensuring strict implementation of the Model Code of Conduct in true letter and spirit directions had already been issued to all the officers/ officials.
On the occasion Chief Administrator Jalandhar Development Authority Jitendra Jorwal and others were also present.
