Patiala, April 12, 2020: Nihangs assaulted policemen in the vegetable market here today which resulted in injuries to several cops, including an ASI who lost his hand.
According to Patiala SSP Mandeep Singh Sidhu mandi board officials and employees stopped some nihangs travelling in a vehicle at the entrance to the vegetable market at around 6.15 am and asked them to show their curfew pass.
“Instead of showing their pass they broke through the barricade and banged their vehicle into the vegetable market gate. When policemen tried to stop them, the nihangs alighted from the vehicle and attacked them. SHO Sadar Police Station and another policeman got injuries on their arms, but an ASI lost his hand when it was severed by a sword blow,” Sidhu said.
He said after this the nihangs fled from the spot and are now hiding in Khichdi Sahib gurdwara.
“A police force has reached the gurdwara and the nihangs will be arrested soon and a case will be registered against them. The injured ASI has now been shifted to PGI Chandigarh from Rajendra Hospital,” Sidhu added.
