Well oiled election machinery led by D.C finalises arrangements
E.C has also decided to conduct webcasting at 103 polling booths

Well oiled Election machinery was all set for conducting the by-election of Shahkot assembly segment in which 1.72 lakh voters would decide the fate of 12 candidates in fray.
The Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Mr Varinder Kumar Sharma today monitored the entire process of distributing the EVMs and VVPAT machines in the Public High School in Shahkot today. Around 2500 polling staff was distributed the machines for conducting polls at 236 polling stations on 189 locations. These polling parties were then ferried to the polling stations through around 50 busses deployed for this job.
Divulging the details, the Deputy Commissioner said that there were total 1.72 lakh votes out of it 88885 voters were male and 83194 were female. He said officers of the Civil and Police administration has identified 96 polling booths out of the total 236 as the vulnerable polling booths. He said that these polling booths would be provided security cover by the six companies of the BSF, along with the local Police, to ensure free and fair polling on May 28.
The Deputy Commissioner said that setting a bench mark for free and fair polls the district administration has roped in a blend of ultra Modern techniques, electronic gadgets and traditional security cover for free and fair by-election for Shahkot assembly poll. He said that from deployment of around 2000 Security personnel including six companies of the Border Security Force, the administration was taking help of electronic eye to ensure free and fair polling. As many as 30 videographers were being deployed with senior officers including Election Observers, Deputy Commissioner, Senior Superintendent of Police, Returning officer, Sector Officers and other polling staff for polling day.
The Deputy Commissioner said that the videographers would minutely check the process of polling during the Election Day. Likewise, Mr. Sharma said that the Election Commission has also decided to conduct webcasting at 103 polling booths on the Election Day as a part of its commitment towards transparent and peaceful poll. He further said that at 64 polling booths Micro Observers would be assigned the task of overseeing the electoral process for smooth and hassle free polling.
Shahkot assembly segment into three high security zones
Divulging the details, the Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Mr. Varinder Kumar Sharma and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mr. Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said that an officer of the rank of Superintendent of Police would be the incharge of the zone and he would be assisted by two Deputy Superintendent of Police for this work. Likewise they said that battery of other Officers/ officials would be deployed in each zone. They said that after the end of campaign the district administration has sealed the borders of Shahkot assembly segment to prevent any sort of intrusion by the outsiders in the constituency.
They said that 25 check posts have been established in the constituency to keep a movement of vehicles and people in the constituency. They said that every vehicle entering the constituency was being scrutinized by the para-military force and the local Police deployed at such check posts/ nakas. Likewise, both the officers said that district administration was committed for ensuring free and fair elections in Shahkot by-election.
