Kisan Andolan 2.0 continues at Shambu station, rail services hit hard, 40 trains cancelled, 64 diverted trains
Ferozepur, April 25, 2024: Passengers continued to bear the brunt of the farmers’ Rail Roko protest, as 108 trains were affected – 40 cancelled, 64 diverted, 2 each short-terminated and short-originated, on the 8th day of the agitation.
The Ambala rail division has to reschedule the trains daily as the farmers, under the banner of the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM), have squatted on rail tracks at the Shambhu railway station near the Punjab and Haryana border, demanding the release of three farmers who had been arrested by the Haryana Police.
Earlier, the farmer leader Surjit Singh Phul had said, that 100 days of Kisan Andolan 2.0 will be completed on May 22 and on this day large gatherings will be held on both borders. Apart from this, it was announced that Labour Day will be celebrated on both the borders on May 1, 2024
Farmers' protest at Shambhu station caused significant disruptions to numerous train routes, leading to the cancellation of several important trains running between major cities like Amritsar, New Delhi, Ludhiana, Bathinda, and others.
The farmers are demanding the release of detained three farmers by the Haryana Police besides the MSP legal guarantee and debt waiver. The blockade affected the Amritsar-Ludhiana-Delhi rail section, because of which a large number of trains were cancelled, diverted, and short-terminated in the Ambala division of Northern Railways.
