Health Dept gives new lease of life to six Nawanshahr kids

Nawanshahr, April 27, 2024: The District Health Department, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar has given a new lease of life to 6 children of the district as they were treated free of cost under Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK) in the district.
A special program was organized at the Civil Surgeon Office, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar today to honor these six children. Civil surgeon Dr. Jaspreet Kaur speaking on the occassion, "said that during the financial year 2023-24, Six surgeries were conducted successfully free of cost under the Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK) at PGI Chandigarh including 3 Congenital heart diseases surgeries, 1 Neural tube defect, 1 Squint surgery, and 1 Congenital cataract.
For children who have serious diseases including congenital heart diseases, the RBSK programme has proven to be a boon. The treatment cost of such operations is exorbitantly high for poor families to afford.
Parents of children suffering from heart disease who have been treated under this program were unable to bear the cost and had also given up hope that their child would be cured but Health Department came forward to protect the health and wealth of the these children under the RBSK Programme, CS said.
District Immunization Officer Dr Mandeep Kamal said that under the RBSK programme, about 31 diseases of children studying in government schools, semi-government schools and Anganwadis are treated free of charge.
She said that apart from this, free tests and medicines are also provided. She said that the aim of RBSK programme was early identification and early intervention for children from birth up to 18 years to cover 4 ‘D’s — defects at birth, deficiencies, diseases and development delays including disability.
