Ferozepur, April 1, 2017: Lawyers across India abstained from work on March 31 to protest against the proposed Advocate Amendment Bill 2017.
Shivdeep Singh Sandhu, President, Bar Association, Ferozepur boycotting the courts also demanded to take care of the interests of the advocates and no new Bill may be passed which is against the advocates.
The advocates have observed countrywide protest against the recommendations of the Law Commission. Under the new amended Bill, action will be initiated against the advocates for negligence besides compensation to the petitioner and the license can be cancelled for indiscipline said, Advocate Karan Main from Abohar.
The regulation and control of legal profession and legal education is proposed to be handed over to non-lawyers and the advocates will have to face disciplinary proceedings before people not connected with the legal profession.
He said, more than half of the Bar Council members will be selected from doctors, engineers and businessmen by the High Court which will be a direct attack on the rights of advocates.
The advocate’s community will not tolerate the amendments in the Bill at any cost. He appealed to the Law Ministry to withdraw the anti-lawyers Bill immediately. Due to strike by the advocates, the people have to face lot of inconvenience.
