Mirthal (Patahnkot), April 18: To seek votes for Bhartiya Janta Party Candidate, Vinod Khana, a three time former MP of Gurdaspur, Today the Chief Minsiter of Punjab Sardar Parkash Singh Badal addressed various meetings in Pathankot district, which forms a part of the Gurdaspur Parliamentary seat.
Punjab CM along with candidate Vinod Khanna held meetings at Mirthal, falling in the Pathankot Vidhan Sabha seat, Pangoli chowk (Sujanpur) and Taragarh (Bhoa)- assume political significance as they were held in the back yard of PPCC Chief and sitting Gurdaspur Member Parliament (MP) Partap Singh Bajwa.
Gurdaspur Lok Sabha constituency has nine Vidhan Sabha constituencies and under the seat sharing agreement the BJP has been allocated the Pathankot, Bhoa, Sujanpur and Dinanagar seats while the SAD contests on the assembly seats of Gurdaspur, Batala, Qadian, Dera Baba Nanak and Fatehgarh Churian.
Political observers claim that the prime objective of the senior BJP leadership to ask the CM to campaign in these three assembly seats today was that these seats hold a massive chunk of Rajput vote bank. The community has nearly 2 lakh votes scattered over all these seats. The Sujanpur sitting MLA, Dinesh Singh Babbu, who is also the Deputy Speaker in the Vidhan Sabha is the most prominent BJP’s Rajput face in the area. However, observers claim that despite the fact that the CM addressed rallies in the Rajput strongholds, it will still not be easy for the saffron party to claim a majority of the community’s votes as Partap Singh Bajwa has asked his long time confidant Capt Kunwar Vikram Singh, a prominent Rajput leader, to camp in the Constituency till the elections were over. “Capt Kunwar Vikram has the ability to sway this vote share in favour of Bajwa. He owes one of India’s largest security agencies and is known to have recruited hundreds of unemployed Rajput youth in his security agency, a development which augurs well for the PPCC Chief,” said an MLA. An another reason to held a meetings in Rajput stronghols because of Swarn Salaria who revolt against the party high command decision and never came here for campaign. According to the local people Salaria has own more than 40 thousand to 50 thousand of voters. Salaria made his impressible visibility in the absence of Khanna and provide all types of help in Vidhan Sabha elections.
Even as the CM targeted Bajwa, the Gurdaspur MP, accompanied by AICC general secretary Dr Shakeel Ahmed, delivered a speech in Kalanaur in which he took on Badal. “The CM never touched the real issues of the farmers of the Bhoa seat. These farmers have to take their sugarcane produce to either Paniyar Sugar mill, which is 40 km away from Bhoa, or to the Mukerian Mill, which is 80 km away. The CM could have assured these hapless farmers by offering to establish a
sugar mill in Bhoa,” he remarked.
A senior BJP leader claimed that notwithstanding these rallies, which indubitably were giving a fillip to the campaign of Khanna, still the film star would have to bank on all the four Halqa Incharges (Area Chiefs) if he has to sail though the hustings. It is pertinent to mention here that all these four leaders-Nirmal Singh Kahlon (Fatehgarh Churian), S.S Langah (Dera Baba Nanak), S.S Sekhwan
(Qadian) and L.S Lodhinangal (Batala)-have been asked by the senior Akali leadership to either pull up their socks to ensure victories for Vinod Khanna from their respective seats or face the music.

Mansa, April 18 : Daring the Congress leaders, MP’s and Ministers from Punjab in the UPA Government to list even a single achievement of their party to safeguard the interests of the state, Bathinda Member Parliament Harsimrat Kaur Badal said that the Congress party has always acted as a ‘stumbling block’ in the way of development and prosperity in Punjab.
Mrs. Harsimrat , who was on a tour of various villages of Sardulgarh assembly segment on Friday lamented that even Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh has badly failed despite being a Punjabi to give any project or package to the state.
Mrs. Badal said the magic of BJP Prime Ministerial candidate Mr. Narendra Modi will completely rout out the Congress from national politics. She said this incumbent government has put an indelible scar of 'scams, corruption, inflation, poverty and unemployment', for those countrymen would never spare this anti-people government in ensuing elections and predicted the worse political position of Congress led UPA in these Elections.
"This so called slogan of “Congress Ka hath Aam Aadmi Ke sath' is a hollow as Congress led UPA did nothing for common masses and Now, it would have to face the wrath of countrymen in elections" she said.
Mrs. Badal categorically said that Congress was the No. 1 enemy of the state due to which the wise voters of Punjab have discarded them from time and again.
Targeting her rival Manpreet Badal, Harsimrat said, “ The aim of my rival Manpreet Badal, who formed Peoples Party of Punjab on the name of martyrs, was to help anti people Congress and now he joined the bandwagon of Congress, which is a sinking ship. My brother in law (Manpreet) is a betrayal who had betrayed mother party Shiromani Akali Dal and his political mentor Parkash Singh Badal. He can also betray you all,”.
In a promising move, Harsimrat urged the electorates to vote for SAD – BJP to bring the Punjab state on the path of fast development and prosperity and strengthen ongoing welfare schemes.

Chandigarh, April 18 : Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) President Sukhbir Singh Badal today said Peoples Party of Punjab (PPP) chief Manpreet Badal was getting jittery because his past was catching up with him with all the people whom he had oppressed coming out in the open now.

In a statement here, the Deputy chief minister said besides the showroom in Chandigarh against whose tenant a case under the scheduled caste atrocities act was registered, the PPP chief was also accused of having usurped a petrol pump besides taking over Wakf board land. "There are many more instance of high handedness committed by Manpreet Badal in his former constituency of Gidderbaha also", he added.

Mr Badal however made it clear that the law would take its own course and that it was for the victims of Mr Manpreet Badal's oppression to come forward and register their complaints. He said as far as the SAD was concerned, it had never pursued a politics of personal vendetta and was not going to start doing so now.
The SAD President said recent turn of events had proved that the PPP chief was hand in glove with the Congress during his tenure as finance minister of Punjab. "Manpreet entered into a conspiracy with then union finance minister Pranab Mukherjee who promised to provide him a financial package and also help to become the next chief minister in case he was able to split the SAD".

He said when Manpreet failed to split the SAD, the Congress encouraged him to form a separate entity hoping it would harm the prospects of the SAD in the 2012 assembly elections. "When Manpreet came a cropper in the assembly elections, the Congress took him back into its fold proving that both the PPP chief and the Congress were in an understanding all along".

The SAD president said Manpreet's past was catching up with him. "His opportunism has rebounded on him with people keeping away from his meetings. "The situation has become such that while the PPP has been virtually destroyed by him, the Congress rank and file is not extending cooperation to him. Manpreet may shout from the house tops that he has become a primary member of the Congress but the cadre which has been victimised at his hands is not ready to extend support to him", he added.

The Deputy CM said even senior Congress leaders were absent from the PPP chief's campaign. "Congress leaders have virtually disappeared from Bathinda and many are claiming they have been deputed for the campaign of other senior leaders including Capt Amarinder Singh. This means there is no one to lead the Congress campaign in favour of Manpreet in Bathinda", he added.

Gurdaspur\Kalanaur, April 18: The All India Congress General Secretary and in-charge of Punjab affairs, Shakeel Ahmed, today blasted at the Akali Dal-BJP leadership for turning this sensitive border state into a river of drugs affecting the very future of the youth and the region.
He was addressing a massive and responsive rally at Kalanaur near the international border in the Dera Baba Nanak Assembly segment, in support of
the state Congress chief, Mr. Partap Singh Bajwa, who is seeking re-election from Gurdaspur.
Shakeel Ahmed said, the sea of humanity that had turned up at the rally in this remote corner of the constituency was a strong indication that the people would send back packing both the Akali Dal-BJP’s paratrooper candidate, Vinod Khanna and Sucha Singh Chhotepur, a rank opportunist fielded by the Aam Aadmi Party.
He said Partap Singh Bajwa had been entrusted with the responsibility
to lead the party by the high command for a special task which he had been carrying out very efficiently and successfully with the result that the party had got strengthened every day. He said the party high command was standing
like a wall behind Bajwa.
Coming down heavily on the Akali Dal-BJP government, he said smuggling was being patronised by the ministers as had been revealed by Jagdish Bhola, an
ex-cop arrested by the police in Rs. 5000 crore smuggling racket who had spilled the beans in front of journalists. He said this government was playing with not only the future of the youth but also the state itself.
He said the present election was a fight between two diametrically opposite ideologies. The Congress was a symbol of all inclusive secular ideology without which this diverse country could not be kept united. However, the Bharatiya Janata Party in general and its prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi symbolised the most dangerous communal and divisive approach. It was Modi who presided over the Gujarat communal massacre but had never expressed any remorse for the same, what to talk of apology.
Punjab Incharge, Ahmed said Modi betrayed his divisive credentials recently at the Ambedkar Jayanti when he said the Congress had ignored dalits at the cost of the Muslims. However, while in UP, he would speak the opposite. He said such an approach would prove disastrous for this great country with a rich legacy of co-existence.
He slammed Modi for misleading the people about the so called pink revolution. He said the export of meat products during the NDA regime had touched 3.5 lakh metric tonnes. Not only that, in Gujarat, it had increased to 22,000 tonnes from 10,000 tonnes per annum. He said Modi was a habitual liar who had always tried to mislead the people by distorting or
ignoring facts.
Shakeel said yet another example of the treatment being meted out to the minorities in Gujarat was the case of the Sikh farmers settled in Kutch area of that state who were facing the threat of eviction. These farmers who were issued evictions orders from the lands they had been cultivating for about 50 years had been given relief by the Gujarat High Court but the Modi government went in for appeal against this order to the Supreme Court. He said Badal had failed to impress upon Modi to withdraw this SLP from the Supreme Court. He said this
was the real face of the man whom Mr. Badal had been projecting as the
prime ministerial candidate.
General Sec Ahmed said the BJP was steeped in corruption and two of
its presidents had to go precisely because of the corruption charges. One of these
presidents was convicted. In Karnataka, the party had re-inducted the former chief minister who had to quit on corruption charges. He said the BJP had no moral right to talk about corruption.

Blasting the Gujarat model of development, he said Modi had sold out
his state to the corporate sector and the Adani group was allotted 45,000 acres of land for peanuts. Now the corporate sector was managing his poll campaign at the national level.
He appealed to the people to strengthen the hands of Bajwa and send
him to the Lok Sabha with a record margin.
Partap Singh Bajwa while addressing, spoke at length listing the
achievements of the UPA government including the implementation of
one-rank-one-pension, food security, right to education, increase in MSP of wheat and paddy in last nine years and NRHM (108 Ambulance), PMGSY, MNREGA etc. he said the UPA care for the common man.
He said on the other hand, the Badal government had failed to
implement its assurances in the manifesto like doubling of old age pension and unemployment allowance.
Those present included Dera Baba Nanak MLA, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa,
Batala MLA Ashwani Sekhri, BKU leader Bhupinder Singh Mann were also
present there.

New Delhi, April 18: Gabriel Garcia Marquez, the Nobel laureate whose intoxicating novels and short stories exposed millions outside Latin America to its passions, superstition, violence and social inequality, has died at home in Mexico City. He was 87.
Media reports that widely considered the most popular Spanish-language writer since Miguel de Cervantes in the 17th century, the Colombian-born Garcia Marquez achieved literary celebrity that spawned comparisons to Mark Twain and Charles Dickens.
His flamboyant and melancholy fictional works - among them "Chronicle of a Death Foretold", "Love in the Time of Cholera" and "Autumn of the Patriarch" - outsold everything published in Spanish except the Bible.
The epic 1967 novel "One Hundred Years of Solitude" sold more than 50 million copies in more than 25 languages.
His stories made him literature's best-known practitioner of magical realism, the fictional blending of the everyday with fantastical elements such as a boy born with a pig's tail and a man trailed by a cloud of yellow butterflies.

The Mexican government said Garcia Marquez died at 2 p.m. on Thursday.

A gray hearse escorted by dozens of police officers in patrol cars and on motorcycles left the author's home about three hours later.

"A thousand years of solitude and sadness because of the death of the greatest Colombian of all time!" Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos said on Twitter.

"Solidarity and condolences to his wife and family ... Such giants never die."

The first sentence of One Hundred Years of Solitude has become one of the most famous opening lines of all time: "Many years later, as he faced the firing squad, Colonel Aureliano Buendia was to remember that distant afternoon when his father took him to discover ice"

Biographer Gerald Martin said the novel was the first in which "Latin Americans recognized themselves, that defined them, celebrated their passion, their intensity, their spirituality and superstition, their grand propensity for failure."

Dozens of journalists camped outside the author's colonial red-brick home in a wealthy neighborhood, swarming the slow trickle of friends who came to pay respects.

Three women dressed in black went inside the house separately. Loud crying could be heard from inside.

His family said late Thursday, in a statement read by a Mexican cultural official, that Garcia Marquez's remains would be cremated and a private ceremony held at an unspecific time.

The Mexican government said it would hold a memorial to Garcia Marquez on Monday in the Art Deco Palace of Fine Arts in the capitol's historic center.

When he accepted the Nobel Prize for literature in 1982, Garcia Marquez described Latin America as a "source of insatiable creativity, full of sorrow and beauty, of which this roving and nostalgic Colombian is but one cipher more, singled out by fortune."

Like many Latin American writers, he transcended the world of letters. Widely known as "Gabo," he became a hero to the left as an early ally of Cuban leader Fidel Castro and a critic of the US' violent interventions from Vietnam to Chile.

"The world has lost one of its greatest visionary writers - and one of my favorites from the time I was young," US President Barack Obama said.

Media reports that in reply to a question, whether Dr Singh needs to make a statement on his former advisor Sanjay Baru's book, Pachauri said, there is no need for him to do so as PMO has already clarified the issue twice. Baru's book claims that Congress President Sonia Gandhi’s instructions were sought for clearing government files and decisions were taken by her.

Bathinda, April 17: Manpreet Singh Badal, the joint candidate of People’s Party of Punjab, Indian National Congress and the CPI today stated that the Akali Dal had hired a firm from Delhi whose only task was to malign political opponents. Informing the media, he said newspapers, television channels and online media are being taken for a ride by this PR firm, who has been given the specific task of sending out one negative story every day.
Manpreet stated that he found it amusing that everyday, one false story was circulated by the Akali Dal team along with its PR partner. And each day, a different lie is concocted to malign the opponents of the Akali Dal.
“The aim is to take media houses for a ride by submitting such stories and statements which do not have an iota of truth in them,” Manpreet said. The daily dose of falsehood is hitting the credibility of those who submit such planted stories, and hurting truth and fairness. The public cannot be fooled by such attempts, as they clearly see that instead of talking of positive aspects of the campaign, the Akali focus is to somehow play with dirt. The Akali Dal seems to have forgotten that those who play with dirt only end up with dirty hands.
However, Manpreet said that he was sure that the media houses, which are committed to truth and transparency, would not fall prey to such “dirty tricks” of the ruling SHiromani Akali Dal. Manpreet added that his friends in the media had told him, on how the Akali Dal and its self-styled media advisors are trying to force and plant stories whose sole aim is to malign opponents. And this happens every day, he added.
“The expenditure incurred by such media houses should also be added to the campaign expenditure of the Akali Dal,” Manpreet said. He added that since this hiring is being done illegally, and with the ill-gotten wealth acquired through dubious means, the Akali Dal is not showing this as election expenditure.....

Patiala, April 17: Ms Preneet Kaur Congress nominee from Patiala parliamentary constituency refuted the allegation leveled on her for not helping the Punjabis abroad as a State Minister of External Affairs, here today.
“In my tenure as an MoS for External Affairs, 16000 families from Punjab could benefit under the amnesty scheme in Italy and 40000 total Indian families could avail this chance, as there “paper work” was arranged on priority basis.” Claiming that Bikram Majithia should check his facts first she said that 17 Indian youth were saved from the gallows as the government provided free legal expertise to all of them and even paid for their expenses to travel back home.
For the abandoned women a provision has been affected were an NRI spouse will have to remit 1500 to 3000 dollars to her as support money.
Never forgetting my “roots” I worked relentlessly on the Turban issue in Italy and France. This sensitive issue was readdressed after a pursuit and educating the Italian and French governments.
Being and agriculture state, I strove to find remunerative, venue’s for the farmers of the states ambassadors of 5 countries, Ethiopia, Uganda and Africa held an seminar in Patiala, for farmers to take lease of land in their countries for farming.
Lamenting that in the political rhetoric, Bikramjit Singh Majithia has forgotten that it was Preneet Kaur who facilitated the paper work for the family, of Indians who have taken political asylum in Europe, Canada, Italy and US, “I have a heart, a heart is not royal or common” it is this heart that worked for the facility to the poor NRI families to bring the dead bodies to Indian for last rites if they could not afforded. The Punjabi youth in Libya, Indonesia were also extended full financial help to travel back to India.

Pathankot, April 17: The Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee President, Partap Singh Bajwa today said that the Akali Dal-BJP alliance candidate Vinod Khanna was far removed from the grass root reality and lacked vision. He said the Aam Aadmi Party candidate from this constituency, Sucha Singh Chhotepur, lacked in commitment to the people and his politics had always been dictated by his personal interests.
Bajwa said ‘Mumbai ka Babu’ Khanna perhaps did not know that the situation in Punjab had worsened during the last seven years since the Akali Dal-BJP government headed by Parkash Singh Badal came into power. The biggest problems facing the state were unemployment and drug addiction and both these problems had multiplied under the present government.
He said Khanna should know that the celluloid world was far removed from the reality and the actual life experience but the problem with him was that he continued to treat his make believe world of celluloid as a reality and hence could not come out with any real solution the people were faced with.

He said it was the UPA government which had been working for the empowerment of all sections of the people in general and of the women in particular. He said the UPA had gone to the extent of proposing 33 per seats in the Parliament. The UPA could rightly claim the credit for making reservation for women in various elected bodies.

He said it was the UPA that had created lakhs of employment avenues at every level while the record of the Akali Dal-BJP alliance government in the state was nil. He said the Badal government had hijacked even the food security scheme of the UPA and was being pushed through as its own. In the big cities, local buses had been provided by the UPA under the JLNURM but the state government taking credit for the same. Similar was the case with the ambulances under the central scheme on which Badal had pasted his own photograph.

Bajwa said now when the Akalis approach the people for votes in the Lok Sabha elections, the people question them about the forgotten promises like the doubling of old age pensions, shagun schemes which continued to be meagre. He said the problem the beneficiaries of the pension schemes were facing that whatever meagre amount had been fixed, they were not getting even that. He said nothing could be more ironic from the woes of the pensioners in the Badal villages itself who had not received their pensions for the last three months.

“If this can happen in the native village of the Chief Minister, one can visualise what will be the situation in the rest of the state. The students have not been paid their stipends and laptops. The supply of atta-daal had been irregular till the state government hijacked the central scheme”, the PPCC chief said.

He said it was perhaps for this reason that the Akali Dal-BJP alliance was seeking votes in the name of its prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi rather than on the basis of its own performance. There was no Modi wave in the state and the people would not be misled by showing them the Modi mirage.

Commenting upon Chhotepur, the PPCC chief said here was a man whose commitment to the people itself was questionable as he had always looked for greener pastures in his political life rather than having any commitment to the people. He said the people in this border constituency fully understood his politics of extreme opportunism. Moreover, AAP had failed to perform when got an opportunity to form the government in Delhi and its chief, Arvind Kejriwal ditched the people of Delhi.

He said the people would reject Chhotepur as he had been changing his loyalties day and night.

Bajwa said only the UPA was committed to the welfare of the common man and had time tested secular credentials as against the divisive policies and ideology of the BJP in general and Modi in particular. Such a divisive ideology was dangerous for the country, he added.

Bajwa met the Pathankot Bar Association, NGO's and representative of Beopar Mandal in Pathankot today. Other who were present Ashok Sharma Ex-MLA, Raman Bhalla Ex-MLA, Anil Vij President Distt. Congress Committee Pathankot, Rakesh Mahajan Pammi President City Congress Committee, Bansi Lal General Secretary, Gaurav Wadhera MC, Rajinder Deepa, Rama Puri, Rajinder Gupta, Sukhminder Kaur, Ajay Salotra, Kulbhushan Manhas, Rajdeep Singh.

Amritsar, April 17: Punjab Revenue Minister Bikram Singh Majithia today renewed his offensive against former Chief Minister and Congress candidate for Amritsar Lok Sabha Seat Captain Amarinder Singh calling him `biggest lair' who twists history tohis convenience. He took the jibe on Captain's public disclosure ofjustifying his aggressive style and how he saved 55 villages including KanduKhera from being merged with Haryana.
"Captain is worst student of history. The villages were saved due to the
sacrifices and fight by the Akali workers and leaders. If you (Captain) is
so aggressive why could not you bring back Chandigarh to Punjab. You are
expert making molehill out of nothing. What about the sacrifices of the
common people and the Akalis to save Punjab what it is today?" he asked
Captain.
Majithia who had been campaigning aggressively for the SAD-BJP candidate

borders were saved due to the Punjabis' long struggle and sacrifices made
by the Akalis, which the villages from going away from Punjab. He said the

making rhetoric as Captain is habitual of doing so, but by the struggle on
the ground. When Maharaja was enjoying the evenings at his MotiMahal and Dochi farm house,Akalis were holding fast-unto-deaths and sitting on the roads in summer andwinters to save the interests of Punjab'', said Majithia.

The Truth Is That People Have Always Rejected His Vendetta Politics

Amarinder has not learnt lesson from his past defeats in elections : Sukhbir Badal

By Babushahi.com

Chandigarh, April 17 : Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) President Sukhbir Singh Badal today said it was shameful that Amritsar Congress candidate Capt Amarinder Singh was bragging that aggression had always paid off for him instead of telling the people of the holy city what he had done for them during his tenure as chief minister of Punjab.

In a statement here, the SAD President said it was shocking that Capt Singh was bragging that aggression would get him votes. "Living as he is in a self delusional world, he is also creating examples of how aggression had paid off for him in the past".

Stating that facts spoke for themselves, Mr Badal said the truth was that the people of Punjab had taught a lesson in electoral politics to Capt Singh not once but twice. "During his tenure as chief minister he initiated an era of vendetta politics and unjustly jailed my father and even me. However the people of Punjab adjudicated on his politics of vendetta and shunted him out of office in the 2007 assembly elections".

Mr Badal said again in the run up to the 2012 assembly elections, Capt Singh picked up the "khunda" and openly proclaimed that he would beat up the akalis with it. "Again the people decided on the issue in a democratic manner and returned the SAD-BJP government to power".

The SAD president said now again Capt Singh, who had been forcibly parachuted to Amritsar by the Congress high command, was trying to drum up support for himself by claiming he would put chief minister Parkash Singh Badal behind bars in case a Congress government was elected to power in 2017.

Advising the Congress candidate to worry about the immediate election in hand rather than dreaming of a victory in 2017, the SAD president said Capt Singh was in the habit of day dreaming. "You can see the newspapers in the run up to the assembly elections in 2007 and 2012. On both occasions Capt Singh had already decided who would form part of his council of ministers as well as who would be the State chief secretary and the DGP. Today he is dreaming of leading the Congress in the 2017 assembly election campaign when he has been thoroughly disgraced and even ousted as PCC President".

Stating that Amarinder's threats of vendetta against his political opponents would not get him anywhere, the SAD president said "the people of Amritsar and Punjab value democracy. They want you to tell them what you have done for Amritsar or what you aim to do for the holy city if elected as their representative". Mr Badal said it was shameful that the Congress leader was yet to submit a report card of what his government had done for Amritsar between 2002-07 and also his vision for Amritsar. "Amarinder seems to have forgotten that people want results and that a royal 'darshan' alone is not enough to win their votes and trust. Post April 30 he will realise for the third and final time that aggression does not pay in politics", Badal added.

Bathinda, April 17: Bathinda Member Parliament Harsimrat Kaur Badal today asked the Communist Party of India (CPI) to explain how it was in alliance with Congress candidate Manpreet Singh Badal in Bathinda when it did not have a tie up with the Congress anywhere else in the country.
While addressing impressive election meetings in various villages of Bhucho (reserve) assembly segment, Mrs Badal said the CPI central leadership should explain this dichotomy. "Is it aware that its local Punjab unit has arrived at an understanding with Manpreet? Are such understandings with individuals allowed by a national party like the CPI? Does the central leadership know that Manpreet, who had earlier formed a Sanjha Morcha in league with the CPI and few other parties, is now contesting the Bathinda parliamentary constituency on the hand symbol of the Congress?".
While talking to media-persons at Akalia Kalan village, Mrs Badal said she was questioning the CPI central leadership on these counts because it seemed like local elements in the CPI had been "won over" by Manpreet adding the Punjab CPI unit also owed an explanation to the people of Bathinda and Punjab and should explain how it had been "won over" by the PPP chief.
The MP said the manner in which the Punjab CPI had aligned with Manpreet had put a question mark on the credibility of the entire party. "Manpreet Badal had martyred the Sanjha Morcha and even his own party the PPP to become a primary member of the Congress.
"The CPI stood besides Manpreet Badal when he formed the Sanjha Morcha on the premise that it was an anti Congress platform which would provide an alternative to both the Congress and the SAD-BJP alliance in Punjab. However recently Manpreet disowned the Sanjha Morcha and even his own party the PPP and said he had joined the Congress whom he had all along termed as the most corrupt entity in the country. Does the CPI condone Manpreet's opportunism?" she asked.
Stating that the PPP chief might have done some manipulation at the local level in Punjab and succeeded in hood winking the CPI central leadership but he could not hood wink CPI supporters in Punjab. " The CPI cadre will never countenance to support the Congress since it is feeling cheated and betrayed by Manpreet's opportunism", she added.
Meanwhile Mrs Badal appealed to the CPI cadre to evaluate Manpreet's behaviour and statements themselves. she said the statements made by Manpreet that he would never join the Congress were available on several public platforms. She said as far as betrayal of the ideals of the martyrs or even the solemn pledges made to the PPP and the left cadre was concerned, the people only had to go to Manpreet's past.
"The PPP chief betrayed his uncle who gifted his own Gidderbaha seat to him. He betrayed the SAD which made him a minister. He betrayed the people of Gidderbaha who repeatedly reposed faith in him by unleashing a reign of oppression in the constituency".
The MP said the PPP chief's "use and abuse" tactics had been exposed and that the people of Bathinda would not allow Manpreet to use their mandate to rehabilitate himself in the Congress.
"Post May 16 after the people of Bathinda reject the PPP chief, the Congress too will abandon him", she added.

Ludhiana, April 17 : Sukhbir Singh Badal, President Shiromani Akali Dal and Deputy Chief Minister Punjab today said that both SAD-BJP government's performance and strong wave in the favour of NDA’s prime ministerial candidate Mr. Narinder Modi have made the 16th Lok Sabha polls a one-sided affair in Punjab. He said that alliance would register record victory on all the 13 seats and no state other than Punjab would have cent percent result.
Replying to media queries while campaigning for Mr. Manpreet Singh Ayali, SAD-BJP candidate from Ludhiana, Mr. Badal said that he had witnessed a strong wave in favour of SAD-BJP alliance while campaigning in the different parts of state. He said that he took these polls as an opportunity to get feedback people of the state as congress was no challenge for the alliance. “I’m happy that people of the state are satisfied with the development and pro people policies initiated by SAD-BJP alliance. They have some grievances too and they are confident that Punjab government would solve these problems once NDA elected into power at centre”, he added.
Mr. Badal said that NDA's prime ministerial candidate Mr. Narendra Modi has already been declared a champion by electoral surveys and the country will soon have an NDA government at the Centre. He said Mr. Modi has become synonym to development and this was another plus point for SAD-BJP alliance which was contesting these Lok Sabha polls on development agenda.
"People of the state have witnessed that SAD-BJP government has performed well to ensure overall development of the state even facing discrimination at the hand of Congress led UPA government. They know That Mr. Modi has strong ties with Mr. Badal besides having love for the state as he was incharge of the BJP Punjab Affairs for 5 years before becoming Chief Minister of Gujarat. Punjab is no exception to the Modi wave blowing in the country. He is the only hope for the bright future of the nation. Thus, these two factors have made this election a cake walk for the alliance", said Mr. Badal.
Describing Congress party as no match to alliance in the state, Mr. Badal said that Punjab has rejected the cheap politics, negative propaganda and destructive slogans of congress party time and again and these lok Sabha polls would pin last nail in its coffin. He said that on the other hand people of the state were giving thumping response to alliance's constructive politics which was based on the vision of overall development, peace and communal harmony.
Replying to another query, Mr. Badal said that Mr. Manpreet Singh Badal was busy in framing new excuse everyday as he has sensed his clear defeat. He said that he did not want to comment more on a leader who has lost his credibility by back stabbing his political godfather besides betraying the people who trusted him. “He is a bag of lies. He is not more than a paper tiger who is attempting to be in news by giving misleading statements”, he added.
Later, Mr. Badal addressed a series of election rallies in the favour of Mr. Manpreet Singh Ayali. He appealed to the voters of the Ludhiana to vote in the favour of young and dynamic leader like Mr. Ayali. He said that all the latest surveys showed that NDA would come into power at its own thus people of the Ludhiana should vote for Ayali to have their say in the NDA government.

New Delhi, April 17: As speculated Robin K Dhowan on Thursday took over as chief of the Indian Navy nearly two months after D K Joshi quit the post in the wake of a series of mishaps.
Media reports that Admiral Dhowan, 59, who has been the acting Navy chief since Joshi's exit, has been appointed the Chief of Navy Staff superseding Western Naval Commander Shekhar Sinha.
He will have a tenure of 25 months, retiring in May 2016. Sinha was the senior-most Vice Admiral but he has been edged out of the race, apparently because majority of the 14 mishaps, including two major submarine accidents, took place under his command during the last 10 months.
Joshi, who had 15 months left in service, resigned on 26th February following the mishap involving submarine INS Sindhuratna in which two Navy officers were killed and several others were injured.
In August last year, submarine INS Sindhurakshak sank at the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai, killing 18 personnel on board.
The sudden resignation by Joshi changed the line of succession in the Navy. Had he retired in August next year as per his tenure, Southern Naval Commander Vice Admiral Satish Soni would have become the next chief.
Under the new circumstances, National Defence College Commandant Vice Admiral Sunil Lamba is expected to succeed Dhowan in May 2016.
Dhowan, who is the 22nd Navy chief, has taken over the reins of the force at a time when it is grappling with mishaps involving its warships and other assets.
Dhowan, who had been the Vice Chief of the force since August 2011, was supposed to superannuate on 31st May, this year.
Defence Minister A K Antony had recommended the name of Dhowan, who was in contention for the top job along with Western Naval Commander Sinha and Eastern Commander Anil Chopra.
Though he has not headed any operational command, Dhowan has held various key positions and staff appointments during his career.

His command appointments include missile corvette INS Khukri, guided missile destroyers INS Ranjit and INS Delhi and Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Fleet (FOCEF).

The Admiral's staff assignments include key posts like Deputy Chief of Naval Staff and Assistant Chief of the Naval Staff (Policy and Plans) at the headquarters in New Delhi, Commandant of National Defence Academy, Khadakvasla, Indian Naval Adviser at the High Commission of India, London and Chief Staff Officer (Operations) at Headquarters of Western Naval Command.

A navigation and direction specialist, Dhowan is an alumnus of National Defence Academy, Defence Services Staff College and Naval War College, Rhode Island, USA.

New Delhi, April 17: Kickstarting her election campaign in Telangana, Congress president Sonia Gandhi has sought to take full credit for her party for creation of the new state and trained her guns on TRS for speaking the language of intimidation.
Media reports that addressing a public meeting in Karimnagar on Wednesday, considered the battleground for statehood movement after the Telangana Bill was passed in Parliament, Sonia said "there is no doubt that without Congress, the formation of Telangana could not have been realised."
"It was only Congress which decided to form a separate state of Telangana. It was only Congress which prepared the Bill and it was only Congress which got it passed in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha," she told a well-attended rally on the sprawling Ambedkar Stadium.

The UPA chairperson sought to puncture TRS (Telangana Rashtra Samiti) which had been claiming credit for the formation of the state and had refused to merge or even enter into an alliance with the national party.

BJP had opposed the Bill in Rajya Sabha till their last breath while TDP had done so with all its might in Lok Sabha. YSR Congress Party had left no stone unturned for stalling the Bill, she said.

"TRS had no role in drafting the Bill and passing the Bill," said Gandhi.

"Now the era of agitation (for separate state of Telangana) has ended. Now...the time is to run a responsible government and only Congress can do this task. Congress takes everybody together and talks to everybody. On the other hand, TRS only talks about a language of scaring and threatening (intimidation)," she alleged.

"For other parties, the creation of Telangana is perhaps a compulsion but for Congress it was a firm commitment," Gandhi said, adding her party responded to the voice of the people.

Seven months (in September 2000) before even TRS was founded in April 2001, more than 40 legislators had passed a resolution at a party meeting in Mahbubnagar favouring creation of Telangana State, she said.

"Congress decided to create Telangana to fulfil the democratic aspirations of four crore people in ten districts of Andhra Pradesh. It was also part of the party's commitment on social justice," Gandhi said.

In an apparent reference to criticism by TRS that Congress delayed on delivering Telangana despite declaring that it was in favour of new state in 2004, Gandhi said it took a long time to build a consensus on the issue.

"As you perhaps know, it took time to persuade others (to support the creation of the new State)," she said.

Gandhi also saluted those who have sacrificed their lives for the cause of the state.

She also hailed the role of farmers, women, youth, lawyers, teachers, students, government employees, poets, intellectuals and writers for playing active role in the statehood movement.

Seeking to reach out to the people of Seemandhra, where Congress is said to be on a sticky wicket, Gandhi said she wanted to reaffirm her commitment to the region and would not disappoint them.

"I want to make a special mention of this: the people of the two states are close to my heart. We will fulfil the promises made to Seemandhra. We will not let them be disappointed. I hope you (Telangana people) will maintain a friendly relation with a liberal heart with Seemandhra," she said.

Gandhi, who had announced that her party had no objection to the formation of Telangana at the same venue in 2009, also referred to the electoral promises made to the people of Telanagana.

"A 4000 mw power plant would come up in the new state, where industries would enjoy a ten-year tax holiday, while the revenue of Hyderabad would solely go to Telangana state," she said, adding the "Pranahita-Chevella" irrigation project would get a national status in days to come.

New Delhi, April 17: The Apex Court in its judgment today said that the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG), is empowered to audit private telecom companies.
Media reports that a two-judge bench, comprising Justices K S Radhakrishnan and Vikramjit Sen held that private companies utilize spectrum, which is national wealth, in providing the services and so their profit-loss accounts could be looked into by the CAG.
The Delhi High Court had in January this year upheld the validity of laws empowering CAG to conduct revenue audits of private telecom firms. Private telecom companies and Cellular Operators Association of India had challenged the Delhi High Court order.
The Centre had argued that in private-public partnership ventures, the revenue generated by the licencees is required to be shared with the Union government in line with the licencing agreements.
Telecom companies pay a portion of their revenue as licence fee to the government.

The CAG had initiated an audit after TRAI found that some telecom operators were allegedly under-reporting income to avoid paying revenue share to the Government.

Dal Khalsa members not to participate in this electoral façade of democracy

Amritsar, April 17 : In a breakthrough decision, the Dal Khalsa has resolved to stay away from Parliament elections under Indian dispensation and renew their struggle for Sikh independence.
While addressing the press conference after presiding over the meet of working committee members, party head H S Dhami said reforms and development cannot be a substitute for the goal of independence. To the real Sikh polity, the challenge is not development, but self-determination, the dream is not to make Punjab a California, but an independent Sovereign state.
Making a fervent appeal to the people of Punjab especially freedom-seekers and victims of state-terrorism ‘not to participate in the elections’, he said that the election drama doesn’t hold any importance and credibility for struggling people. Claiming that the Indian electoral exercise is an illusion, he said “We appeal to the people to realize that the elections only lures but don’t delivers”.

Our members, supporters and well-wishers will not participate in this electoral façade of democracy in India”, he declared. This is the decision of our party and we will take this decision to the Sikh people.

“Political awareness and political education was crucial, and we would work to keep the people actively engaged in politics, outside of election arena.

He termed the Indian electoral system as unfair, incomplete and wrought with pitfalls for struggling nations. He said Sikh aspirations were too dear to be sacrificed at the altar of this game of elections where money, liquor, drugs and all arms of the state work in tandem to upset apple-carts of individuals.

The precious lives of martyrs at the hands of the Indian government cannot be weighed against better facilities, malls, tarred roads and uninterrupted free supply of electricity, he said.

He said this time around euphoria has been built around a fascist leader and the entry of a new political party. For Sikh people, it hardly matters who would occupy the power in Delhi, he asserted.

The issue of Sikhs was not of good or bad governance which can be solved by replacing the rulers or faces but it was actually the matter of future of their people who have been promised the glow of freedom by Indian leadership.

He said “we have no expectations from the upcoming Parliamentary elections as all mainstream parties Congress, BJP, AAP were chips of the same block. All political parties have an identical agenda when it comes to honouring Sikh aspirations.

Addressing the meet Dal Khalsa spokesperson Kanwar Pal Singh said Sikhs were not against the democracy. He said Sikhs have participated in elections with gusto and enthusiasm since 1950 onwards. Has the Sikh community gained anything through participation in elections, he asked. The solution to Sikh problem lies in referendum and not elections, said he.

Justifying their standpoint to stay away from elections, he said despite Sikhs participation in elections, Punjab does not have its own capital city, the waters of Punjab unabatedly flow without royalty to the non-riparian states, Article 25 of the Constitution of India categorizes Sikhs as Hindus, plethora of laws for Hindus govern Sikhs, state patronization to so-called Gurudom continues, justice eludes Sikhs for every violent act done by Indian state unto them as a community and wrongly confining hundreds of Sikh prisoners under TADA and now UAPA. Indian polity still refuses to accept our separate identity and status and Constitutional discrimination continues, he added.

He said since the last six decades, ‘Ambiguity has been the hallmark of the Sikh politics. He admitted that their group erred in participating in the 2007 assembly elections but after careful and serious consideration had realized that there were systemic weaknesses because of which, elections cannot solve the Sikh problem nor change the Sikh position”.

Earlier a meeting of party representatives was held at the head-office where the dilemma of Sikhs- to be part of elections or not to be –was hotly debated and discussed.

The prominent amongst those who were present includes Satnam Singh Paonta Sahib, Sarbjit Singh Ghuman, Ranbir Singh, Baldev Singh Ajnala, Kulwant Singh Pheruman, Avtar Singh Jalalabad, Gurpreet Singh Mann, Harjinder Singh, Gurdeep Singh Kalkat, Gurwinder Singh, Dr Arpal Singh, Harmohinder Singh, Noblejit Singh, Prabhjot Singh, Manjit Singh, Paramjit Singh.

Gurdaspur, April 17: As the campaigning heat for the Lok Sabha election soars, BJP’s Gurdaspur candidate Vinod Khanna is all set with his plans to make his constituency into a major tourism hub. ‘Of course, the topography here is beautiful – rivers, lakes, mountains, pleasant weather, and proximity to other tourist destinations makes this a perfect place for a flourishing tourism economy’, he says.

Vinod Khanna was a three time MP from Gurdaspur and was instrumental in getting sanctions from the centre and establishing the Pathankot Airport and railway lines during his tenure ‘The airport and railway connectivity is key for growing tourism or industry in this region.. there are no planes flying at this time – this hits the economy of our region. Airport cargo is used to transport Agri products that is a key source of income in this area. In the last few years, all flights are stopped despite having an airport. This has hurt the economy of this
region badly. I need to fix this,’ he says.
There is a huge demand from industries and businesses for a functioning airport in Pathankot

Vinod Khanna’s ambition to develop a tourism hub in Gurdaspur is an idea that was conceived during his stint as the Culture and Tourism minister in Shri Vajpayee’s cabinet. ‘That’s when we started planning the entire tourism hub project, but the incumbent MP did nothing to take it forward or get sanctions from the government in centre which was led by his own party,’ he said. The Incredible India campaign was also Vinod Khanna’s brainchild. His aggressive marketing strategy combined with infrastructure improvement to promote tourism saw an increase in tourism industry revenue in the country during his tenure. He aims to mirror similar aggressive strategy in the constituency of
Gurdaspur.
‘Ranjeet Singh lake with beautiful forest and mountain surrounding it, can become a primary hub for water sports..and a great tourism spot with various events such as national rowing competition, paragliding, etc’ he says. ‘This area has the capacity to generate huge income via tourism – which will then create jobs for thousands. Our people will not have to go out of the region looking for jobs or get into unwanted activities such as drug addiction etc due to lack of job
opportunities,’ he adds.

Khanna also aims to revive spiritual tourism and medical tourism and has already appointed subject matter specialists to study the area for future reference. ‘Since I know this is one of my key priority after becoming an MP, why wait – let me have my research ready,’ he adds confidently.

Other areas on his utmost priority list are building highways, getting more trains to Pathankot and bringing industries and employment to the region. ‘I will do in 12 months what Bajwa could not do in 5 years,’ he adds with a smile as he waves at the enthusiastic crowd.

Chandigarh, April 17: The recent 3 days visit of Kejriwal in Punjab has shaken the Sikh Politics and the Sehajdhari Sikhs have extended their unconditional support to Kejriwal. In the past these Sehajdhari Sikhs had been playing a vital role in every elections by extending their unconditional support to the Congress against the SAD as their voting rights in the SGPC elections were curtailed by the NDA Govt in 2003.The Sehajdhari Sikh Party challenged it and the High Court has revived their vote right but the fate of 170 elected SGPC members have hung in balance as the case is pending adjudication in Supreme Court. Sehajdhari Sikh Party has broken its ties with the Congress as the Union Govt. failed to support their cause in Court rather contrarily supported the SGPC by filing affidavits against them. Sehajdhari Sikhs felt cheated and dubbed by the Congress and so they decided to go with Kejriwal. The National Executive Council passed a resolution in support of AAP and handed over to Mr.Munish Sisodhia. This will be a big gain for AAP as 75 lakh Sehajdhari Sikhs will support Kejriwal in Punjab said Dr.Paramjeet Singh Ranu National President of the Sehajdhari Sikh Party.

Strengthening his statement on authentic figures Dr.Ranu said that the 2011-12 Census report confirmed by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs states that the total Sikh population in Punjab is of 1.75 Sikhs. Out of which only 55 lakh Sikhs were enrolled by the Gurdwara Election Commission in the electoral roll during the SGPC elections 2011. If 50 lakh were deducted to be minors or non –eligible voters then still the remaining approx. 75 lakh Sikhs were directly ignored by the Gurdwara Election Commission in the SGPC elections declaring them as non-sikhs or patits. Whereas they are the people who have are Sikh(Sehajdhari Sikhs)as per official census report of the Union Govt.

Sehajdhari Sikh Party was the first to support veteran Anna Hazzare's anti-corruption crusade for Jan-Lokpal bill and gave dharnas and memorandums to the Governor Punjab for court arrests in Chandigarh on the call of Anna team in August 2011. Dr.Ranu added that more than 80 percent of the total world Sikh population is of the non-baptized (sehajdharis) Sikhs and during the SGPC elections the Akali Dal Badal treats them step-motherly but during general elections they try to harp on the vote bank of the youth of sehajdharis. He gave a slogan for the party “ Je Shiromani Commette vch vote nahi ta Akalidal lai koi support nahi” (Means if no vote in SGPC then no support for Akali dal)

Dr.Ranu said that his party was feeling much desperate as no common man could dream of contesting elections in this country because of the prevailing methodology of Indian politics which was over powered by money media and mafia, but now Arvind kejriwal has setup an example in the country that a common man can also dream of giving clean and strong governance if his efforts are honest and sincere. Its the need of the hour to restrain the communal forces like RSS-BJP to overpower the country and for that in the interest of national integrity and to safeguard the minorities, all secular forces should come on a common platform.

He further said that to save the future of Punjab it is a high time to wake up and come together to fight against corruption, unemployment, narcotics, land mafia and vendata politics of groupism. For a real progressive Punjab its the need of the hour to implement progressive policies like as formulated by Mr.Kejriwal. He added that though at some place the selection of candidates have not been done on merits but forgetting all that the people should come forward for supporting the mission of Kejriwal to safe guard the minorities from the communal forces. This is the reason why Sehajdhari Sikh Party has extended its unconditional support to Kejriwal.

respected sir, i was on your neighbor seat yesterday instead of 6 Ps, m also agree with yor point of advertisement and pornography which pollute young minds. but i also want to share you that in each and every article related to women issues the first line is "women is half of the world population" but only .5 to 1 per cent of glamour dolls pretend to show the image of women and people are ready to accept. it is the issue of deterioration of dignity of women in the society. there is a ad on whisky in which by each and every sip of whisly the top of women started disappear and the slogan is "kujh bhi ho skta hai" . similarly movies like grand masti which passed by censor are also create danger in the society related to cultural and value terams. there is need to finish gender gap in the society,. boys and girls look each other as alliens as they do not understand opposite sex and so they attracted. from the begining in the school, there create rows of boys and girls seprately. if we do not understand opposite sex we will not respect them, there is need to reduce this .

Harjinder (Mohali,Punjab,India)
