PAU launches RAWE program, 200 students to gain practical experience

Ludhiana, August 28, 2024: The Department of Extension Education, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), launched its Rural Agricultural Work Experience (RAWE) program today, sending 222 final-year BSc students to 16 selected villages in Ludhiana district for an 8-week attachment.
Dr Satbir Singh Gosal, Vice-Chancellor, PAU, flagged off the programme, emphasizing the importance of bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application.
He highlighted the programme's aim to expose students to realities of agriculture, research, and extension activities.He advised the students to work closely with the farmers and the researchers to learn about crop cultivation, soil management, and technology transfer.
Dr TS Riar, Additional Director Communication, addressed the students on effective communication tools to disseminate agricultural technologies to the masses. He encouraged them to link farmers with PAU's social media networks and farm literature.
Dr Kuldeep Singh, Head, Department of Extension Education, outlined the programme's objectives, including equipping students with a clear vision of rural communities, developing professional competency, and acquainting them with developmental agencies.
He expressed that the programme will help students understand rural situations, agricultural technologies, and farmer problems, preparing them for future challenges in agriculture.
The scientists of the Department of Extension Education, who will coordinate the student groups, were present during the flag-off ceremony.
