Poshan Maah kicks off successfully with strong start: DPO
Ferozepur, September 7, 2024: The Department of Social Security and Women and Child Development celebrates Poshan Maah every year in September as part of the nationwide Poshan Abhiyaan. Under the able leadership of District Program Officer, Mrs. Richika Nanda, the first week of Poshan Maah in Ferozepur was completed.
District Program Officer Mrs Nanda explained that Poshan Abhiyaan is an awareness campaign, during which Anganwadi workers organize various activities at Anganwadi centres. On the first day of Poshan Maah, children, adolescents, and women took a pledge to be free from malnutrition, healthy, and strong. A Poshan Rally was also conducted with Anganwadi workers, helpers, ASHA workers, ANMs, and children participating.
On the second day, awareness was spread about newborn care, family planning, and preparations for home delivery. The third day was observed as Anemia Day, focusing on prevention and educating people about the causes of anaemia. Following this, assessments were conducted for children aged 3 to 6 months and 3 to 6 years, evaluating their weight, height, and overall development.
The last day of the week focused on promoting breastfeeding and educating mothers about the importance of breastfeeding, the challenges associated with it, and ensuring that mothers are supported in breastfeeding their newborns.
