Ludhiana (Punjab), February 22, 2026: Volunteers and leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) staged a protest against Nayab Singh Saini in Ludhiana on Sunday, waving black flags and raising slogans as he arrived to attend the “Purvanchal Samman Rally.”
The protest took place near the Dhuri Line Railway Overbridge when the Haryana Chief Minister was on his way to the rally venue. AAP workers demonstrated against what they termed as the BJP’s discriminatory policies towards Punjab.
Leading the protest, Atam Nagar MLA Kulwant Singh Sidhu told mediapersons that the demonstration was against the BJP’s alleged anti-Punjab stance.
“The BJP, while sitting at the Centre, withholds funds meant for Punjab’s health, education and development, and then comes here to mislead people. Punjabis are aware of their true face,” he said.
AAP Lok Sabha Incharge Sharanpal Singh Makkar also addressed the gathering, stating that the protest was meant to send a clear message that BJP leaders cannot attempt to cover up what he described as anti-farmer, anti-trader and anti-Punjab policies. He added that while political campaigning is a right, raising “false questions” about Punjab’s law and order situation was unacceptable.
AAP District President (Ludhiana Urban) Jatinder Khangura countered the BJP’s criticism by citing figures related to law and order. He claimed that as per central agency reports, Punjab ranks second in maintaining law and order, whereas Haryana recorded over 1,000 murders in 2023 and more than 900 in 2024. He further alleged that incidents of atrocities against women and Dalits were significantly higher there and that Punjab’s farmers faced mounting debt during previous BJP rule in the state.
AAP leaders asserted that instead of seeking political mileage in Punjab, the Haryana government should focus on addressing pressing issues within its own state.
Senior Punjab BJP leaders were also present at the rally, but AAP leaders claimed that the protest outside the venue drew significant public attention.
