Chandigarh, August 24, 2024: INLD Principal General Secretary Abhay Singh Chautala wrote a letter to the Chief Election Commissioner demanding an extension of the polling date on October 1.
He wrote in the letter that as per the notification of the Election Commission of India, the election process in the state of Haryana will start on September 5, 2024, polling will be held on October 1, 2024, and counting of votes will be held on October 4, 2024.
Drawing attention that there are two gazetted holidays before the polling day, i.e. 28 September 2024 is Saturday and 29 September 2024 is Sunday to ECI, Chuatala said that there is also a polling holiday on October 1 and after that, there will be two gazetted holidays.
That is, Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti on October 2 and Maharaja Agrasen Jayanti on October 3, 2024. Since people usually go on holidays on long weekends, it will affect the polling.
"The vote percentage will be adversely affected and the polling percentage is likely to decrease by 15 to 20 percent. Apart from this, the preparation for the election as well as the training of election staff will also be adversely affected," he said.
To ensure maximum participation of voters in Haryana and to maximize the voting percentage, Abhay Singh Chautala requested that the date/day of voting be extended by one or two weeks.
