Agri Deptt to appoint Kisan Mitra to encourage basmati cultivation

Ferozepur, March 15, 2023: A unique initiative is being taken by the Punjab Government under the Crop Diversity Campaign to encourage the cultivation of basmati crop under which one Kisan Mitra will be appointed in every two villages, aiming at to support the state’s farmers and boost the agriculture sector.
Sharing this information, Chief Agriculture Officer Dr. Tejpal Singh said that continuous efforts are being made by the government to promote crop diversity, under which efforts are being made to reduce the area under traditional crops like wheat and paddy by creating awareness among the farmers.
He said that now the government has decided that Kisan Mitra will be present in each village to train the farmers regarding cultivation of crops, under which one Kisan Mitra is being recruited in two villages of Ferozepur district. The recruitment process of Kisan Mitra has started whose minimum educational qualification is 10th pass and the age of Kisan Mitra candidate should be between 45 years to 60 years.
CAO said that the Kisan Mitra should have at least three years of experience in basmati cultivation and the eligible candidates who want to become Kisan Mitra can apply to their Block Agriculture Officer by March 18 to become a part of recruitment.
Apart from this, he said that information boards will also be installed by the Agriculture Department in the villages to give information to the farmers regarding basmati cultivation, in which advisory regarding seasonal crops will be displayed. He said that farmers can contact the nearest agriculture offices to get more information in this regard.
