Chandigarh, January 31, 2026:
Senior Congress leader and former MLA Dr Navjot Kaur Sidhu on Friday announced her decision to quit the Congress party, making the declaration through a social media post that has sent shockwaves across Punjab’s political landscape. She had already been suspended from the congress party for Rs 500 crore statement followed his serious allegations of corruption against party leaders.
In her tweet, Dr Sidhu accused Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring of allegedly colluding with Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to weaken and “destroy” the Congress from within. She alleged that the party’s decline in Punjab was the result of internal sabotage, rather than electoral setbacks alone.
Dr Sidhu said she had repeatedly raised concerns and issued warnings within the party, but the Congress leadership failed to take corrective action. This, she said, compelled her to take what she described as a “painful but principled decision.” She asserted that she could no longer remain part of a system where, according to her, the party’s interests were being compromised through covert understandings.
Without outlining her future political course, Dr Sidhu stated that her decision was driven by her commitment to Punjab and her refusal to remain a “silent spectator” to what she termed the systematic erosion of the Congress organisation in the state.
Her announcement has triggered sharp political reactions, with leaders from rival parties seizing upon the allegations, while the Congress leadership has so far not issued any official response.
A prominent and outspoken figure in Punjab politics, Dr Navjot Kaur Sidhu’s exit is being seen as a significant setback for the Congress, which is already grappling with internal dissent and organisational challenges in the state.
