Burnaby shooting victim Punjabi youth identified
Vancouver, May 15, 2021: Punjab Youth killed in gang war shooting at Cactus Club has been identified at 23 year old Jaskeerat Kalkat.
According to statement released by Sgt. Frank Jang of Burnaby, Integrated Homicide Investigation Team, it is further investigation this incident and has sought public help in the matter.
Jaskeert Kalkat was killed in shooting at the Market Crossing area in Burnaby, B.C.
Burnaby RCKP said that it responded to multiple reports of a shooting near the Cactus Club restaurant at Burnaby’s Market Crossing. Police found 23-year-old Jaskeert Kalkat with gunshot wounds inside a vehicle. He was pronounced dead at scene. There were two other victims found with gunshot wounds, a man and a woman, who were taken to hospital. They are believed to be associates of Kalkat. A suspect vehicle described as a white SUV was seen leaving the scene of the shooting.
It said that at approximately 9:04 p.m., the Surrey RCMP received a report of a vehicle on fire in the 18500-block of 18 Avenue. It is believed to be the suspect vehicle from the earlier shooting in Burnaby.
Statement said that IHIT has conduct of the investigation and is working closely with the Burnaby RCMP, the Integrated Forensic Identification Services (IFIS) and the B.C. Coroners Service to gather evidence.
Investigators are asking for dash cam video from anyone who was in the area of the shooting in Burnaby and/or the site of the burning vehicle in Surrey.
The victim, Jaskeert Kalkat, was known to police and involved in the Lower Mainland gang conflict.
According to a report of Vancouversun, this shooting was in retaliation of killing of 28 year old Karman Grewal at Vancouver International Airport on Sunday. It also said that girl wounded in shooting had once worked as Clerk in RCMP’s criminal intelligence centre. She had left job one year ago and was now connected to these gangs. Her relative in force was trying to persuade her to leave all this.
