Canada: 30,000 Individuals ‘abscond’ after notice for deportation
Ottawa, December 11, 2024: Nearly 30,000 individuals have ‘absconded’ after notice for their deportation were issued in the country.
According to the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) data 29,731 people have absconded after receiving deportation orders. Ontario alone has 21,325 individuals which have absconded. Quebec has 6,109 individuals, while British Columbia, Alberta, and other provinces report significantly lower figures.
According to CBSA data 457,646 people are in various stages of deportation as of October 21. This includes:
- 27,675 individuals in the final stages of removal.
- 378,320 individuals under monitoring, either awaiting refugee status decisions or facing unenforceable removal orders.
- 20,921 individuals granted a stay on removal proceedings.
- 29,731 individuals whose whereabouts remain unknown.
- Canada has successfully deported, 7622 Mexican, 3,955 Indian, 1,785 from the United States, and 1,516 from China. Other notable deportations include 864 individuals from Pakistan and 858 from Nigeria.
