Countdown for Mann Govt has begun; Guilty will be jailed after CBI probe: Sunil Jakhar

Chandigarh, October 20, 2026: Punjab BJP leader Sunil Jakhar on Tuesday said the “countdown” for the Bhagwant Mann-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government had begun, claiming that a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into drug-related cases would ensure that those found guilty were brought to justice.
Speaking to reporters after Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit to Mansa, Jakhar said the visit had raised hopes of stronger action against drug trafficking and of protecting Punjab’s youth from substance abuse.
Jakhar said Shah had addressed the concerns of Parvinder Singh Jhota’s family and assured them that a CBI team would arrive on Wednesday to begin its investigation. He said those found guilty in the case or other drug-related cases would face legal action.
Paying tribute to Jhota’s father and wife, the BJP leader praised their determination to continue raising concerns about drugs despite their personal loss. He said their efforts to protect society from the drug menace deserved recognition.
Jakhar also said the Centre had included pregabalin capsules in the list of scheduled medicines, highlighting the need for action against the misuse of drugs and medicines.
Targeting Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, Jakhar accused him of repeating statements issued by the AAP leadership in Delhi.
The BJP leader further launched an attack on the Mann government, alleging that drug trafficking had continued under its watch. He said the AAP government’s influence would decline and called for accountability over the drug menace in Punjab.
The allegations and political remarks came amid renewed demands for investigations into drug-related cases and action against those suspected of involvement in the trade.
