Ferozepur athletes shine at National Masters Athletics Championship in Dharamshala
Ferozepur, June 9, 2026: Athletes from Ferozepur once again brought laurels to the district and Punjab with their outstanding performances at the National Masters Athletics Championship held recently in Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh.
Under the leadership of Dr. Gurinderjit Singh Dhillon, President of the District Masters Association, Ferozepur, six athletes from the district participated in the prestigious national event. The championship witnessed the participation of nearly 1,200 athletes from 20 states across the country.
The Ferozepur contingent delivered an exceptional performance, winning several gold medals in different age categories. In the 70-plus category, Dr. Gurinderjit Singh Dhillon secured gold medals in Shot Put and Javelin Throw, demonstrating remarkable fitness and sporting excellence.
In the 65-plus category, Professor Sarjit Singh Sidhu won gold medals in Hammer Throw and Shot Put. Dr. Jaswant Singh claimed gold medals in the 200-metre and 400-metre races in the 60-plus category.
Teacher Ishwar Sharma, competing in the 50-plus category, created a new national record and won gold medals in Shot Put and Javelin Throw. In the 45-plus category, Lecturer Jaswinder Singh Sandhu bagged a gold medal in Hammer Throw, while Asian Champion Pargat Singh Gill, competing in the 40-plus category, set a new record and won gold medals in both Hammer Throw and Shot Put.
Congratulating the athletes, Ferozepur Urban MLA Ranbir Singh Bhullar said that these sportspersons are a source of inspiration for the younger generation and would be specially honoured for their achievements. He added that such accomplishments encourage greater participation in sports and motivate youth to adopt a healthy lifestyle.
Several dignitaries, including Gurdial Singh Virk, Senior Vice-President; Dalip Singh Sandhu, Cashier; Harbinder Singh, Vice-President; Kewal Krishan Sharma; Gurbachan Singh Bhullar; Malkit Singh Haraj, District President of Democratic Teachers Front; Sarabjit Singh Bhawra, State Committee Member of DTF; Dr. Satinder Singh, Deputy District Education Officer; and Komal Arora, Deputy District Education Officer, also congratulated the winning athletes and wished them continued success in the future.
