Gurdaspur (Punjab), April 3, 2026: In a major security development along the border, the Border Security Force (BSF) has recovered a drone along with a packet suspected to contain heroin from fields near the Ravi river in Punjab’s Gurdaspur district.
The recovery was made near the BSF Chowki in Bharyal following a specific tip-off. Officials said the drone had a packet tied to it, indicating an attempt to smuggle narcotics across the border.
Sources said the seized material has been handed over to the Behrampur police station for further investigation. The exact weight of the recovered contraband is yet to be confirmed.
Security agencies suspect cross-border smuggling attempts, with Pakistan-based handlers often using drones to push drugs and weapons into Indian territory.
A joint search operation involving BSF and Punjab Police is currently underway in the surrounding areas to trace any additional consignments or links.
Officials said the operation remains active, with heightened vigilance along the border region.
