Scribe Bhawna Kishore Granted Interim Bail by High Court
Chandigarh, May 6, 2023 ( Babushahi Bureau ):Delhi based scribe of Navbharat Times Bhawna Kishore was granted interim bail by the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Saturday. The court of Justice Augustine George Masih directed that the order will remain in operation till Monday. She had been arrested on the allegations of hitting a woman with the car and using derogatory language after the accident.
Bhawna and two other accused had moved the high court for quashing the FIR registered under sections 279, 337 and 427 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and sections 3 and 4 of the SC and ST Act at Police Station Division no 3 Central Subdivision.
The petitioners claimed that the case was "nothing but political witch hunt on State of Punjab’s part”.
Senior advocates RS Rai and Chetan Mittal with counsel Gautam Dutt argued for them in the court on Saturday. They pleaded that the news channel she was working for had been reporting against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwala for constructing/renovating his official residence at the costs of Rs 45 crore. "As a counterblast and to teach a lesson to the news channel, the present false case has been registered against the petitioners, who are innocent and have been framed,” they said in their arguments.
