Journalist Nitin Sharma wins Laadli Media and Advertising Awards for Gender Sensitivity

Nitin Sharma, Assistant Editor, The Indian Express and member of Chandigarh Press Club has won the 14th edition of Laadli Media and Advertising Awards for Gender Sensitivity held at Mumbai on Wednesday. Sharma won the award for his story showcasing the journey of the face of world archery armless para archer Sheetal Devi. It is his second award.
Sharma won this award for the story “2 medals at Asian meet, 16-year-old from J&K is first female archer without arms” reported in 2023. The story tells the story of Sheetal Devi, a girl born with the condition Phocomelia, which results in under-developed limbs since birth, at the village of Loidhar in Kishtwar in Jammu and Kashmir. Devi won three medals including two gold medals in last year's Asian Games and currently trains under coaches Kuldeep vedwan and Abhilasha at the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board Sports Complex, Katra. Devi also won a Paris Paralympic mixed team bronze medal earlier this week.
A total of 74 pan-India winners and 37 jury appreciation awards out of a total of 798 entries in 12 languages from across the country were announced at the awards ceremony held in Mumbai.
