Fazilka, July 18, 2024: In a significant move to boost the income of farmers in the state, the Punjab government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, has initiated a project to promote tomato and red chilli farming in the Fazilka district. Punjab Agro has already a juice factory in Abhor, Fazilka, to process tomatoes and red chillies, which will be exported to countries where there is a high demand for these products.
Deputy Commissioner Dr. Senu Duggal, who visited the factory, expressed her optimism about the project, stating that it will revolutionize the farming sector in the district. She urged farmers to come forward and join hands with Punjab Agro to cultivate tomatoes and red chillies, which will not only increase their income but also contribute to the state's economy.
The factory can process 6,000 metric tons of tomatoes and 30 metric tons of red chillies daily. Punjab Agro is purchasing red chillies from farmers at a rate of Rs 28 per kilogram, and the produce is being exported to various countries.
Punjab Agro officials, including Plant Head Subhash Choudhary and Manager Gurpreet Singh, were present during the visit. They assured the farmers of complete support, from sowing to marketing, and urged them to contact Punjab Agro for any assistance.
This initiative is expected to bring a significant change in the lives of farmers in the region, and the district administration is committed to providing all necessary support to make this project a success.
