Gandhi Jayanti has brought cheers to the residents as the district bagged two awards from Government of India in two days.
Divulging details, DC Navjot Pal Singh Randhawa said that the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India has conferred " Har Ghar Jal '' award on the day of Gandhi Jayanti while Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India has adjudged the Nawanshahr city as the top ranker in Azadi@75 Swachh Survekshan -2022, yesterday evening.
He said that the district has not only achieved these two awards at National level but also bagged two more awards at State Level Swachh Bharat Diwas observed at Hoshiarpur by the Department of Water Supply and Sanitation, Government of Punjab.
Giving more details, Randhawa said that Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar district has achieved the target of supply of piped water to all the rural households much before the deadline fixed up to 2024 under the National Jal Jeevan Mission by the Government of India. The Har Ghar Jal Certification was presented by the Union Minister for Jal Shakti, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi during the observance of National Swach Bharat Diwas. The award was received by the Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Amardeep Singh Bains, today at New Delhi.
Congratulating the Nawanshahr local body (Municipal Council) for proving their worth in Swachhta Ranking as Clean City of North Zone in category of having population 25000-50000, he said that the award was a result of hard work and dedication of the Sanitary workers and residents of the Nawanshahr city. He said that the feedback given by the residents matters in this ranking and this time the numbers attained by the local body was 5198 out of 7000. The prestigious award was presented to the Sanitary workers of the MC Nawanshahr including the elected representatives led by the CEO of Punjab Municipal Infrastructure Development Corporation, Mrs Isha Kalia at Talkatora Stadium of New Delhi, on the eve of Gandhi Jayanti.
He said that two villages of the district also got the awards under various categories today at State Level Swachh Bahart Diwas, observed at Hoshiarpur. Bharta Kalan panchayat was given Rs one lakh prize under 'My Village My Responsibility' while Mahal Khurd Panchayat Rs 10,000 prize for winning ODF Plus Film Competition. Executive Engineer, Water Supply and Sanitation, Puneet Bahsin accompanied the both panchayats and also got the certificate for Har Ghar Jal tagging of the district at State Level Function.
