SIR-2026: Roll Observer review progress with political parties’ representatives; 6.63 lakh voters digitized
Ferozepur, September 11, 2026: Roll Observer-cum-Commissioner, Ferozepur Division, Babita held a meeting with representatives of various political parties to review the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and address difficulties being faced during the process.
The meeting focused on ensuring that the SIR exercise is conducted in a smooth, transparent and impartial manner, while resolving issues being faced by political parties and the general public in a timely manner.
MLAs Ranbir Singh Bhullar, Fauja Singh Sarari, Naresh Kataria, Jagdeep Kumar Goldy and District President of the Aam Aadmi Party Harjinder Singh Ghanaga, besides representatives of various political parties, attended the meeting.
During the meeting, the political representatives raised several issues concerning the revision of electoral rolls, submission of information by voters, requirement of documents, issuance of notices and difficulties being faced at the booth level.
Election Tehsildar Sukhdev Singh and Election Tehsildar Fazilka Jaspreet Singh informed the Roll Observer that during the second phase of SIR, notices were being issued to voters whose records remained unmapped or where errors had been detected during the mapping process. Such cases were being dealt with according to the prescribed rules.
Roll Observer Babita listened to the issues raised by the political representatives and directed the concerned officials to take necessary action. She specifically instructed the Election Tehsildars to ensure that every SIR-related case is dealt with fairly, transparently and strictly according to the rules, so that no eligible voter faces unnecessary inconvenience.
She said an accurate and error-free electoral roll is vital for strengthening democracy and called for active cooperation among the administration, political parties and the public. She also urged political parties to create awareness among people about the SIR process and immediately bring any voter-related problems to the notice of the concerned election authorities.
In the meeting, it was informed that the draft electoral roll had been published on August 13, 2026, and claims and objections are being received up to September 12, 2026. The final publication of the electoral roll is scheduled for October 12, 2026.
According to the draft publication, Ferozepur district has 6,63,744 general voters and 2,573 service voters. During the first phase of SIR, enumeration forms of 6,63,744 out of 7,17,773 voters were received and digitised, accounting for 92.47 per cent. Enumeration forms of 54,029 voters were not received, with 20,707 cases relating to deceased voters and 24,442 voters having permanently shifted to other places being among the major categories.
During the second phase of SIR, notices are being issued in cases involving unmapped voters and errors in mapping, with further action being taken as per the rules.
The political party representatives expressed hope that the difficulties emerging during the electoral roll revision would be resolved on priority and that the SIR process would be completed in a fair, transparent and effective manner.
