Amritsar, August 23, 2024: Special Lecture on "Literatures of the Margins" at Guru Nanak Dev University by School of Punjabi Studies. Renowned writer and educationist, Dr. Ishmeet Kaur Chaudhary, Professor at Central University, Gandhinagar, Gujarat, delivered a special lecture at the School of Punjabi Studies in Guru Nanak Dev University.
The event was presided over by eminent Punjabi scholar Dr. Manmohan Singh IPS, Professor of Eminence at Guru Nanak Dev University.
Dr. Manjinder Singh, Head, School of Punjabi Studies School highlighted the sensitivity and significance of its theme. He emphasized that literature plays a crucial role in addressing the existential concerns of marginalized sections and creating a balanced and peaceful society.
Dr. Chaudhary's emotional and intellectual discussion delved into the pain experienced by marginalized sections due to discrimination based on gender, religion, caste, and race. She stressed that literature has been instrumental in expressing the mental anguish of these communities.
The lecture also addressed complex issues surrounding identity within marginalized communities through a short film presentation.Dr. Manmohan Singh commended Dr. Chaudhary for shedding light on such serious and sensitive topics during his concluding remarks.
The event concluded with gratitude expressed towards the keynote speaker as well as various faculty members and students from different departments who attended.
