Bengaluru (Karnataka), June 4, 2025: Celebrations for Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s maiden IPL title turned tragic on Wednesday when a massive crowd surge outside M. Chinnaswamy Stadium left seven people dead—including a woman—and more than 25 injured, according to police and hospital officials.
Thousands of supporters had converged on the stadium precinct for an open-top victory parade that was later canceled because of traffic and security concerns.
Witnesses say that as gates were unlocked for a planned felicitation ceremony, fans at the rear pushed forward, triggering a crush in which many were trampled.
Police resorted to a brief lathi charge in an attempt to disperse the crowd.
Victims were rushed in makeshift ambulances and private vehicles to nearby Bowring Hospital, where at least 15 people were admitted with fractures, head injuries and severe suffocation; several remain critical.Overflow cases were diverted to Vydehi Hospital, officials said.
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah expressed condolences on social media, ordered a magisterial inquiry, and asked Bengaluru Police to file a preliminary report within 48 hours.
State health authorities have been directed to provide free treatment and may announce ex-gratia payments once casualty lists are finalized.
