Chandigarh, November 14, 2024: Punjab BJP president Sunil Jakhar has finally accepted that he has resigned from the presidency but hasn't revealed the reason behind it. His absence from the ongoing Punjab by-polls campaigning has now sparked questions with many enquiring why the party's state president is absent from the poll campaigning when the central ministers including Ravneet Bittu and the BJP are working diligently in favour of party's candidates.
Some sections of the Punjab BJP leaders and workers are troubled with the fact that the party is in the election field without a state chief.
Many are even questioning that if Jakhar did not have to fulfill the responsibility assigned by the Prime Minister, then why did he approach the Prime Minister in Chandigarh to get his photo and video taken? Why did he join the NDA meeting?
Notably, Shiromani Akal Dal (SAD) announced not to contest the upcoming Punjab bypolls after party President Sukhbir Singh Badal was declared 'tankhaiya' by Sri Akal Takth.
Jakhar has reportedly appealed to the party's high command that he should retire as the president of the Punjab BJP, but the high command did not respond to this,
Some have claimed that Jakhar is upset with the party as he was not given a key position while Ravneet Bittu who joined the BJP later, was made the Union Minister despite defeat.
In the by-elections, many BJP leaders including Union Minister Ravneet Bittu, and former minister Anurag Thakur are coming and campaigning in favor of BJP candidates. Anurag Thakur campaigned for Keval Singh Dhillon in Barnala and Ravneet Bittu in favor of Manpreet Singh Badal in Giddarbaha. Many election rallies have been held. But everyone is surprised at Sunil Jakhar's absence from this high-profile fight.
