Mehal Kalan, Punjab – July 26, 2025: A 26-year-old youth, Beant Singh, from a laborer’s family in Channanwal village, Mehal Kalan, tragically lost his life to a drug overdose, reigniting public outrage over the unchecked drug menace in rural Punjab.
In a shocking revelation, the village Sarpanch Nek Singh openly admitted that Chitta (synthetic heroin) is being sold freely and fearlessly in the village.
He stated, “Despite repeated complaints by the panchayat to the administration, no concrete action has been taken. The drug trade continues unchecked.”
Adding to the distressing claims, Beant Singh’s grieving parents alleged that 40 to 45 individuals are involved in the sale of white powder (Chitta) in their village alone, turning it into a hub of addiction and tragedy.
The local administration has been accused of inaction, despite multiple warnings and escalating concerns from the village leadership and residents.
When contacted, the SHO of Mehal Kalan police station said, “We are investigating the matter. Action will be taken based on the family’s official statement.”
