Mohali, February 9, 2021:
A large gathering of people today protested peacefully against the three farm laws in front of Homeland Heights in Sector 70 here. A stage was made on a trolley, where Bhartiya Kisan Union (Rajewal) president, Balbir Singh Rajewal and Punjabi artistes including Kanwar Grewal, Sonia Mann and Gurjazz, addressed the protesters.
Many slogans were chanted in support of the farmers. The youths sang songs against the central government to express their feelings.
Speaking on the occasion, Kanwar Grewal appealed to the protesters to take maximum participation in Kisan morcha at Singhu, Tikri and Ghazipur borders. "We, the Punjabis are only 3 crores in numbers. There is a need to increase the number of protesters at the national capital borders. So, I request you all to go there and join the agitation on priority basis," said Grewal.
Balbir Singh Rajewal said, "Modi is a lier and stubborn, which everyone knows. The central government was ready to make several amendments in three agri laws but they were not repealing it."
Rajewal added that the 'chakka jaam' call of Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) witnessed great success throughout the regions of North India on February 6. He also said the on-going agitation of farmers is getting stronger as a large number of farmers from the states of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan are joining it.
Ranjit Singh Ghuman, a retired professor of Punjabi University, Patiala said from the stage, "If the government is not ready to repeal these laws, they should suspend them for at least three years. For the time being, an independent committee should be formed comprising of farmers' unions, experts, and government officials. Then there should be a debate on the committee report in each state legislative assembly. The states can decide on their own whether to implement these laws or not."
The event of peaceful protest was organised by Harneet Brar and Damneek Mann. On this occasion, Jasmer Singh, Gabbar Sangrur, Amrinder Singh and Dr Pyare Lal Garg were also present. Harneet Brar, the organiser, said, "We have started the campaign from rural to urban areas. In the coming days also, we will spread awareness among people of both villages and cities regarding the on-going agitation of farmers."
