Farmers plan Mahapanchayat on Sept 15 and 22, demand border openings from Govt
Ferozepur, September 11, 2024: Farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher, in a video message, announced that the farmers' agitation, ongoing since February 13 in Delhi, will continue with upcoming mahapanchayats scheduled in Jind on September 15 and Pipli on September 22. Pandher accused the central government of misusing agencies like the NIA to intimidate protestors, highlighting a recent raid on BKU leader Sukhwinder Kaur's house, which coincides with the 200-day mark of their protest.
Asserting the farmers' resolve, Pandher declared that they would not be deterred by government actions and would press on until their demands, including a legal guarantee for Minimum Support Price (MSP), are met. He called on the central government to open the borders so that farmers can advance to Delhi on the completion of 200 days of protest.
"We will gather in large numbers at Shambhu, Khanauri, and other borders. Vinesh Phogat has also extended her support and will join us," said Pandher, speaking from the stage of the Shambhu morcha.
In a related development, the Supreme Court has asked Haryana and Punjab to suggest neutral candidates for a committee aimed at negotiating with the protesting farmers at the Shambhu border near Ambala, where they have been stationed since February 13.
