Farmers announce Delhi March on Dec 14; demand accountability, condemn statements
Ferozepur, December 13, 2024: A group of 101 farmers will march towards Delhi on December 14 and the march is scheduled to begin at noon, said farmer leaders while holding a press conference today at the Shambhu border.
Meanwhile, farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal’s fast has entered its 17th day and he has written an open letter to the Prime Minister, signing with his thumb impression in blood, urging him to ensure MSP to every farmer. There is also support from political and religious leaders to Dellawal who fast unto death to seek a legal guarantee to MSP on all crops.
The farmers expressed concern over the health of farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal and raised suspicions about a conspiracy following a letter sent by the Ambala DC to the Sangrur DC. The farmers criticized the government for not initiating a dialogue with them to address their issues.
There was also a strong condemnation of recent remarks by Member of Parliament Ramchandra Jangra. The farmers questioned why such issues were raised after significant delay and demanded an investigation, emphasizing that the government, police, and administration are under the ruling party’s control. They called for Jangra to issue an apology and urged his party to expel him for his controversial statement.
Addressing the ongoing Supreme Court case, farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher stated that the government has been advised to engage in dialogue and refrain from using force. He remarked that it remains to be seen how much the government complies with the Supreme Court's directives.
The farmers reiterated their commitment to continuing their struggle until their demands are addressed.
