Ferozepur, December 14, 2024: The National Lok Adalat held in Ferozepur under the guidance of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), New Delhi, successfully resolved 9,915 cases, granting awards amounting to ₹27.43 crore. The event was organized across India in compliance with directions from Gurmeet Singh Sandhawalia, Executive Chairman of the Punjab State Legal Services Authority, Mohali.
In Ferozepur, the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), under the leadership of District and Sessions Judge Virinder Agarwal, managed the proceedings across 18 benches, including 12 in the Sessions Division, one at the Permanent Lok Adalat, two each in Zira and Guruharsahai, and one at the Consumer Court.
According to official data, 20,222 cases were taken up during the Lok Adalat, of which 9,915 were successfully settled. Cases ranged from civil and criminal disputes, cheque bounce cases, recovery suits, traffic challans, domestic disputes, and motor accident claims to pre-litigation matters such as bank recoveries and cases involving private finance, mobile, and telephone companies.
To assist attendees, the DLSA established help desks at the District Court Complex and sub-divisional courts in Zira and Guruharsahai. Speaking on the occasion, Chief Judicial Magistrate Anuradha, Secretary of the DLSA, emphasized the advantages of Lok Adalats. She highlighted that decisions made in Lok Adalats are binding, carry the weight of a court decree, and cannot be appealed, providing finality and relief to both parties.
“The decisions are mutually agreed upon, ensuring a win-win situation for both parties. This not only resolves legal disputes efficiently but also spares individuals from prolonged litigation and associated mental stress,” she added.
The National Lok Adalat serves as a vital mechanism for quick and cost-effective dispute resolution, fostering harmony and satisfaction among the litigating parties.
