Police bust notorious snatching gang, recovers 10 stolen mobiles, poverty, addiction fueling crimes
Ferozepur, December 14, 2024: The city has witnessed a sharp rise in snatching incidents, often attributed to unemployment, poverty, and drug addiction. These socio-economic factors are driving individuals, particularly youth, toward petty crimes for quick money.
In a recent case, the Ferozepur police busted a notorious snatching gang responsible for over 40 incidents. The breakthrough came after the theft of a mobile phone belonging to Monika Kumar, wife of Vikas Patial, from Ward No. 5, Village Jol, District Kangra Cantt, on December 1, 2024.
Following swift action, two accused were arrested: Karan, alias Kannu, from Bhagwanpura, and Sahil, alias Sael aur Machhi, from Indira Colony Cantt. Ten stolen mobile phones were recovered from their possession. During interrogation, the duo admitted to multiple snatching cases in the area.
A case has been registered under Section 304 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), and a manhunt is underway to nab two other gang members who remain at large.
The police have appealed to the public to stay alert and report any suspicious activities. Authorities are also focusing on tackling the root causes of crime to create a safer environment.
